I'm enjoying reading y'all's thoughts on the title, but hell, he could call it "Yesterday's News" and I'm sure we'd all eat it up! Personally, I'm hoping for teeny tiny type...who cares if our eyes all go to pot...the more salacious details, the better!

I've been in a ridiculously good mood since first reading this news late last night. Sorry, Gio. I don't think I did too well with the "M'illumino di meno" event today 'cuz I was all lit up with smiles all day.
Then I came back here and read the in-depth discussions about obscure capitalization rules and titles that scan well. Man, I love you guys!
My vote for revamped subtitle would go to "A Life with Pygmies, Polo, and the Police." The rhythm works for me and you get the double whammy of alliteration and assonance with Polo and the Police together. Plus, you are going from the unexpected to the familiar, a tactic that I feel grabs the readers' attention better.

But then again, maybe the thing should read "A Life with Pygmies, Polo, the Police, and Pointing"

Seriously, I don't know how some of us will survive through the whole book if we're getting this much mileage from the title. I'll be all thunked out by the third metaphor.

I am willing to bet that at some point, that subtitle was in a different order and one editor overruled another. I can hear it: "I know it sounds better the other way, but we have to get 'Police' first so people will see it." (As if they won't see it two words later.)

I like it conceptually but I have to disagree aurally: I personally think the elision of "pygmies_and" is smoother to the vowel jamming of "polo_and."

With all due respect and admiration, I'm not feeling the elision as long as your beloved serial comma is there. Aside from looking awfully pretty, commas function as a pause. The aforementioned comma would also break up the jarring vowel sounds in my version. Trust me. I know something about jamming vowels. I speak French all day, and the French hate to put vowel sounds together. Just to avoid doing so, they've made up grammar rules that contravene the most basic and sacred grammar rules. D'ya know what I mean, MON amie?

Crap, I stand corrected. I just spent way too long searching through the Chicago Manual book and website, and the lowercase T before "Police" is technically correct even though it's not in running text. Though as with running text, I vehemently disagree.
