Australia Fires

Postby irishrose1969 on 09 Feb 2009 09:14

Whaaat someone was restarting the fires after being put out Jeezus these people.  WTF is going on here? I am truly saddened for our Aussie friends and pray they will be able to try and heal and begin to recover as best they can given the circumstances.

Truly heartbreaking.

This is insane. What the hell is wrong with people?

I'm glad our fellow nutters are okay, but for the people that have been killed, my heart aches for their families. Fucking insane.

Saw an amazing story on breakfast tv this morning about a family who survived by hiding in the cellar of their house whilst the fire raged over them.

There were women with their faces covered in scarfs and sunglasses hoseing down their homes and the surrounding areas to try to protect their property and their livestock.

Emergency services and army working around the clock. This shows the true bravery and resillience of the Australian people and it is this that will be remembered when this is all over and not the cowardly scum bags that caused this tragedy.

It rained so hard in England today and I wished with all my heart that it could be scooped up and sent to Australia to help.

Stay safe all of you.

It is heartbreaking, because these are areas, and people, who know how to deal with bush fires. This was unprecedented. People who thought they would have a few hours to haul out - and that was a rational, reasonable thought - had less than 30 minutes.

I know I'm a brit so it isn't my place to rant, and everyone here is far to good to even think this idiotic thought, but if one more stupid ass, damp London resident asks 'Well why didn't they just get the hell out of there and let the house burn?' I swear to gong I'll hit them. (sorry - rant over)

I am really heartbroken by this: Apparently 350 people in the Cairns and Port Douglas region - my choice for the most wonderful spot on earth - are suffering from dengue fever after the flooding.

Sorry, folks. I'll try to keep my climate-change ranting to a dull roar going forward, but this is pretty hard to take.

the death toll is now climbing to 200, and there are still fires raging out of control four days later. i haven't been directly affected by this enormous tragedy, fortunate city dweller that i am, but it's pretty hard to ignore. there's a real air of despondency around here. this is, to understate things, a really bad situation.

Horrible situation. Just horrible.

Thanks for checking in, AU (and I saw DrummerDave in another thread). Very relieved to hear that the tribe is still intact. I hope any and all lurking nutters down under are well as well.

Love to you all. Stay safe.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
