Was just emailing an old friend about this. Back in the day he got me The Cramps "Smell of Female" album for a b-day gift. We didn't know who they were but how could you go wrong with an album title and cover like that? Plus, Lux Interior and Poison Ivy? Sold! Anyway, loved the record and proceded to buy all their stuff. Then there's the Police connection. Sad news. BTW: no one who was in the Cramps can be 60. That ain't right. 'Cause that means I'm in my 40's. Damnit!

I was lucky enough to catch the Cramps a few times in the early/mid 80s, and I think once in the 90s. It just seemed like one of those bands that would go on forever...though in some ways, I am surprised he didn't leave us a long time ago. The guy just put in 200% at every show, year in and year out...and with an 'existing heart condition'? Wow...

Gonna put on Bad Music for Bad People tonight and open a beer or two in his honor.

He'll be missed.

Remember the last verse from Joe Jackson's "The Evil Eye"?

I got the candles burnin' low
I got the Cramps on the stereo
I got the doll now I can start
With a pin right through the heart

I got dolls with straw hats
I got ladies with shopping bags
They'll be sorry they crossed me tonight
Now they're bein' watched
By the evil eye

RIP Lux

It is fitting that Lux died within a few days of the 50th anniversary of Buddy Holly's passing on Feb 3, 1959 in light of the way the Cramps and Lux were clearly influenced by Holly.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music

The same happened to me on my 16th birthday - I still have the vinyl record!
The Cramps are and always were among my favourite bands.
I had the chance to see them 1994 in Dortmund...a show I will never forget.
Iggy Pop is a harmless clown compared to Lux Interior.

I was just beginning to complete my CD back catalogue and to get some recordings from Dime - now is the time.

Moving a bit towards the tangential, here's a link to an oral history by Kid Congo Powers (who I've always been mesmerized by) that starts from his Ramones mania (he started their fan club) to being in Cramps (Psychedelic Jungle, Smell of Female), Gun Club (off, on, off, etc), and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Good Son, Tender Prey)...

Re: the Cramps, more about Ivy than Lux but an intriguing overall behind-the-scenes account...

It was kinda hard to navigate around when I came across it, so I am linking the 2 top level links that contain all the segments...

Here's the top level to part one, which includes 6 chapters:

Here's the top level link to part 2, another 8 chapters:
