To all you gears heads...have a copy of The Rhythmatist on Vhs been watched like twice.

So the quality is outstanding....anyone know how to make a copy for dvd?

I could send it to that person as long as he makes dvd copies for everyone in the forum?

Any takers???...want to help out and spread the love around???...the dvd copies we all have are grainy and not in the best of shape.

I am willing if you are...let me know :)

Hey DBMI - really kind of you. I don't have the technology to do the VHS/DVD transfer, but if someone volunteers for that then count me in as a distributer if non-US people are in need. I have a copy already thanks to a lovely person on here who helped out a bunch of people last year (and thanks to my dodgy DVD facilities it skips a lot - so no good for copying, but honestly, I got to see enough of it :-) )

I have a very good stand-alone DVD recorder, but it may not like the tape if it's been Macrovision-encoded...

This was a really serious holy crap moment for me. I am the worst member on the board. I have a Copeland cd that I'd better get out tomorrow to a very cool member of the board. And no I can't tell you who, as my vision is failing me right now (don't read into that!)

I was just wondering as I tend to think of what is easiest for some concerned. Don't love me for that, it's just my way. I just had some VISIONS in my head that driving the 3 blocks to the post office and spending a dollar or so to send a cd to Australia is ludicrous. Wouldn't it be easier to just have the recipient fly here, as it's only a 24 hour flight, grab a limo for an hour long drive and pick up the cd herself?

I'm so sorry, but in a laughing at myself sort of way. I'm a goof. I'm the goof you did not have the pleasure of meeting. If you did, you'd understand, and I'll stop now before I raise the attention of D-A-O, bongo.... I mean nevermind

I don't know if this will help you, but in my city I know some shops that do it and specialized in transfer VHS Hi-Fi Stereo to DVD, but the only thing to promise you in that case is to receive your VHS Tape tranfer to DVD and return it to you on VHS & DVD not me capable to make multi-copies and distributed its from South America to the rest of the world  ... In the case I make it for you, when you received the dvd upload it at megaupload or Gigasize to post a link here for everybody who wants to download and burn it on DVD  If you are agree send me an email (Here it shows bellow at email button)

hey yall!
this would be a big job for me...but i may have the gear necessary to do it kicking around, not for sure but maybe. if no one else steps up to the plate, i'll look into it some more.

basically i dont have anything to do it directly, so i'd have to piece together a system which could take days. which im totally willing to do if it comes to that :)

All one needs is a dvd player with burner

plug with the three cords from your video from the out lets into the dvd in lets press play on your video at the same time start recording on your dvd player

so all one needs is a video recorder and dvd player with burner

video player must be compatiable with video nstc or pal unless one has a player that plays both

that's what im saying...is that i don't have a dvd player with a recorder or know anyone with one, so i'd actually need to run the VCR into the computer somehow...and then from there use iDVD.

No, that's not true. Nearly every stand-alone DVD recorder you can buy these days is equipped with the Macrovision copy-protection chip, and will not record the tape (provided, of course, the tape is also Macrovision encoded). Check the VHS tape & box and see if there's any mention of Macrovision or "copy-protected"...but in reality, the tape can have it and not say so, so the only way to really check is to try it and see.

What is needed is someone who has a VCR to computer with the proper capture card & encoding software (or, with a standalone DVD recorder that has the Macrovision disabled). But if noone steps up to the plate, I can give it a shot with my setup. I've been able to encode 95% of the tapes I've tried, but a few have failed because of the copy protection.

You'd need the proper video capture card to do a decent job....are you on Mac? I have a decent PC, and I've been in the market for a capture card for some time but haven't gotten around to it.

I believe it is not an issue with video tapes

I know it can not be done with dvd's since they are encoded however don't believe Video tapes are since most are from the eighties

could be wrong though

Yes, Macrovision copy protection was first started on major studio videotapes (pre-recorded ones, not blank ones), back in 1985. Movie tapes issued prior to this won't have it, however. It would depend on if this is a official VHS tape, when it was made, and if the studio used the Macrovision protection.

In truth, it's actually easier to copy DVDs (even copy-protected ones), than a VHS tape, because most computers are DVD-writer drive equipped these days, and software than defeats the copy protection is easy to obtain/buy.

In any case, if GSC can swing it, that's great news...I'd love to see a decent copy of this! :)
