OT - “The Musical Brain” with Sting on CTV

Thanks for the link policefan. I watched the show on TV last night but I missed the first fifteen minutes. I just got caught up now on what I hadn't seen.
It's a very interesting programme. Aside from all the fascinating information, I liked the two little clips from The Police reunion tour. Stewart graced the Canadian airwaves with a few beaver faces. I'm growing particularly fond of his angry beaver that sometimes occurs when he raises both drumsticks above his head before beating the crap out of his kit.
Anyone interested in music will enjoy this show. I hope the link works for you all.

Link didn't work for me in NY. But Kittie from tp.com is going to send me a DVD which I hope to be able to copy. Also, Micra on tp.com posted a link to an article that said the documentary will eventually be on PBS and the National Geographic channel in the U.S. and U.K., respectively. (Although we also have the Nat Geo channel).

Anyway, will post if I am successful.

That's too bad Susan, and presumably the rest of the world. First you all couldn't see the full clip of the young Andy in the bathtub of disappearing bubbles and now you can't see this.
At least you'll see it eventually on PBS and National Geo. And if your tp.com connection comes through, you may see it sooner. That's kind of you to offer to make copies of the DVD, Susan.

Let me see if I can remember any more fun details from the programme. At one point near the end Sting is looking at these MRI images of his brain and he says, "I don't want to look at this any more. I look like an alien." The dude really does have issues about looking at himself, eh? Over all, Sting was quite open and thoughtful in the interviews. It's pretty cool that this man of mystery would agree to exposing his brain to the world like this. And the words pompous ball bag never crossed my mind once during the whole programme.

It was very interesting Sing was asked to make up a melody while in the M. I. R . .......could this be the beginning of a new song????


Also while having the M.I.R. He listened to different types music all music showed brain activity except Muzak (background music played in stores, over phones on hold, etc.) none nada zilch proving that Yes Muzak sucks!

In the meantime:

There is a lot of activation in Sting’s corpus callosum. He is shuttling a lot of information back and forth between the right and the left hemisphere. Dr. Daniel Levitin has never seen this before in an image experiment. Amateur musicians and non musicians they tend to use the right hemisphere to process pitch and melodies and the left hemisphere for language. But the better musician you become the more you spread out between the two hemispheres.

Sting thought that was good to hear.

And what Dr.Levitin found very interesting is when Sting is focusing on the rhythm even at an unconscious level his brain is imaging how he moves his body.
