For discussion..."new" songs on the tour?

One thing I thought was interesting was the comment from Sting on Monday (unless I misheard it) that while they're doing only Police tracks, they'll be playing some songs they've "never done before"...which I take to mean (not only possibly some new stuff but) maybe some deeper album cuts that were never played live before. That thought has me really excited and wondering what rarer stuff we might possibly hear...especially what could work well with just the three of them on stage.

What might be some of your picks?

I'm gonna again seriously shout out for "Darkness", grooved-up Gizmo style.

"Miss Gradenko", too. "Murder by Numbers" would be awesome and that's a very raw, "bare-bones" style track already. And let's finally give "Omegaman" the exposure it's due as a great song (I think I'd be in heaven to just hear straight through the last four songs on "Ghost", my favorite sequence of Police songs ever.)

Man, this is just too exciting to think about.

As long as they don't do A Kind of Loving I'm happy. That is the one and only Police song I truly detest.

As long as they don't play that, they can play Mother and Sally and Behind My Camel all they want to. (Did I miss any of the unpopular ones?)

I concur on Darkness and Omegaman. Would love to hear those. I'd also like to hear some B-sides: A Sermon and Once Upon a Daydream are my favorites. Low Life would be cool too since Andy could replace the sax with a guitar solo at the end. How about No Time This Time? And Nothing Achieving of course.

sokii i am with you at 1000 % they could play all the habitual Sting repertoire, in particular the 2 first solo albums. Then as you know, i like gizmo a lot and even the lute albun, that is incredible.

now, all 3 together, i am sure they will have imagination and a LOT OF FUN (it's better if I us caps in case Stewart is reading) TO CREATE NEW SONGS.

take care!

I heard that comment too. I could swear i also heard a request at the Whiskey for "A Sermon" to which Stewart (i think) replied "Maybe later".

I now have great hope that Masoko Tanga is going to get its just due. It's the only song from the first album that never got any live rendition. It's still my favorite Police tune and I believe Stewart will be fighting for it as well. Plus it was one of the three songs in the rotation when i tuned into the Police site's radio on Monday.

I'd like to see them be as adventurous as possible within the limits they've set for themselves. I don't like the recorded version of A Kind of Loving either, but the music would be awesome to hear by itself, without the screaming. In fact, it could be really outstanding live, as they were kicking that one into high gear just before the song fades out.

I would love them to play Be my Girl/Sally, of course without Andy's narration. Just listen to the instrumental start of the song. It's so powerful, and I always felt that this was the only Police song ruined by a bad idea in the middle. Just imagine them jamming on that song. And of course, Masoko Tanga is a must. Somewhere in the middle of the concert to let themselves go and enjoy just playing their instruments, with fading lights and fan's eyes shut and heads going left and right. I can imagine that and I have the chills. Masoko Tanga is a must!!!

Woman, did you pluck that out of my head? Word for word, I feel the same way!

Back in my college days, I took a videography class and we had to produce a 3 minute autobiographical video. I used "Darkness" as the soundtrack (oops, am I gonna get sued for royalties? ). My teacher was looking over my shoulder as I was editing it and when I was done he got all quiet on me and finally said "You should be in film school". You have no idea what that meant coming from this man who never said anything positive about anyone. He was the head of the photog dept, and I swear, he was a hardcore hard*ss. I started crying right then and there. I think he was shocked by my video because I was the girl that skipped class all the time to hang out in the lounge with my friends. Unfortunately, his comment put the fear in me that I would not be able to top that video piece, and I subsequently stopped going to class. He did give me a D in the class, though I know I should have gotten an F since I only completed two assignments and never went back. Ahh well. Now I think to myself, "It must have been the song".

Whew, Ok, therapy session is over.

It seems like songs off GITM seem to be popular, I'd like to see them play Secret Journey, Darkness & Demolition Man

Bombs Away but I think it's al ittle too Politically Incorrect, could you imagine the press feeding frenzy on that one. Another International incident might just occur. :o

Sockii,

these last 4 songs from Ghost are a very good idea! But instead (or in addition to) of "1 world - not 3", I'd like to hear is "Rehumanize yourself"... Never undestood why it's never been played live, it's full of energy and that's a good song. Unless I'm the only one to appreciate it ???

"Masoko Tanga" is also a must. As is "A sermon" or even "Friends". Well, any song they play, I'll be glad (except "A kind of loving"...)!

I hope they'll perform some songs we're not used to hear live. Personally, I really enjoyed the "Voices inside my head" version we heard on the Webcast (I'm not sure they played it live - I mean completely live, not just jamming on the recorded intro they used in the concerts). Wow! It was like the song was completely re-orchestrated. That's the magic of The Police, more than 20 years after.

Congratulations, guys!

Yes you are all right. Ghost in the machine is the album (with Synchronicity) that the real purists (those who are on this blogs seens years) not really like. For them the true police was until Zeniatta = when it was a trio without keyboard.

So, it my really be awesome if they really plan to play as a 3 piece (ok with some contemporary sound effects) but with the original sound, the numbers you mention. It would be a sort of different approach to this songs I guess. Excellent idea my friends.

The c word has totally different register in American English than in the Queen's English--don't know if that has anything to do with Rehumanize in US or not--may have to change it, at least...

I love Ghost, too. I understand that the politics of it aren't great, but what can you do.
Unfortunately, his comment put the fear in me that I would not be able to top that video piece, and I subsequently stopped going to class.
You know, I've fallen prey to this kind of thinking before as well...ain't it the pits that oftentimes we are our own worst enemies?

One summer I went to the film school given to high school kids up at Northwestern University, where I also had to film a music video. Seems like I used a Depeche Mode song, but one of the other kids did "Invisible Sun"...wish I had a copy of it. It was very dark, lots of buildings collapsing and stuff. Awesome. Wonder what happened to that guy.

On the setlist, what Phillippe said. Masako and Rehumanize! Yay!

I'd also vote for Suitcase and Canary, myself...
