STEWARTNESS!!!!! !!!!! aka Stewart's Gene Krupa show on BBC2

Postby smudge on 10 Jan 2009 19:30
OK! Exactly WHAT do we have to listen to? The Gene Krupa program?

I see no Stew on the page.
Yes the Gene Krupa programme. First of four parts. Thank goodness Mr Copeland is narrating (albeit rather briskly), and Iain was alert, because otherwise we'd never have known about it - and it is just brilliant.

(Unless it is a costume drama or wildlife documentary, the BBC does have an irritating habit of going a long way in search of suitable foliage to hide its light under.)

I'm guessing Dive's gigasize efforts might help with that:

Enjoy!

did you not read the start of this thread, T?! jeez, pay attention....

this is excellent; the link for which i've already sent to every drummer i know!

so presumerably this is a fairly recently recorded documentary; like post-tourzilla? or during last summer when he did that other recording in london?

Hey folks, the next one's on Thursday at 7 local time....

(You know, in all the excitement I forgot to thank Dirty for her help in finding/posting the first link in the other thread, too...Thanks, hon. I know you'll be all 'aw shucks' about it, but your search-engine mojo is excellent.)

*Four parts* of Stewarty goodness. I still can't believe somehow we didn't know about this in advance...not meaning to be critical, just sorta still feeling like it's an unexpected gift :)

Oo, this link is tantalizing-will have to get my boy friend to download so to enjoy.....especially GENE KRUPA!!!
My dad was born in '23 (yes, that's right) and during his teen years accompanied HIS dad-and played-on different gigs in the Newark NJ/No. Jersey area. Dad actually got to see Gene perform, at least once, possibly more. The gig he saw that he told me of was one where Gene was just going at it, playing so hard that he fell off of his seat and kept on playing, never missed a beat!! There are other great swing-jazz stories too. My dad was a night-club hoppin' zoot suited dude! :D And I think he still is at heart......I am just thankful that to still have he & Mom. Oo-oo, Gene Krupa! And the Stewart part will be great to see also

Wow, that's dedication to keep playing after he fell off of his seat. Good story.
