STEWART COPELAND

There was a time when Sting WAS The Police for me. I idolized him. I bought any solo stuff I could get my hands on as well. And I always assummed that there were many sides to the breakup story. Then I bought a computer about two years ago. In all honesty, I was a little bored with Stings last album at the time, and only bought it for my collection. Then I started reading on Ian Copeland's forum and started to realize that it was really his fault for the band's breakup. Then Kim directed me to this site. The more I read, the more I started to dislike Sting. Then today happened.......

What impressed me the most, as if anyone in the band would really care, haha, was how genuine Sting seemed to be. I loved the fact that Stewart (my new favorite) didn't have to beg him to reform. I loved it that Sting decided to call THEM up to get the ball rolling. That's a class act. And I really liked how honest he was about it. When he said he woke up one morning and felt all nostalgic, I really started to like him again.

But what really took the cake, was when he said it will only be Police songs on the tour, no solo stuff, no horns, and no backup singers (damn I had the hots for Tessa Niles though, she could come!) It's pretty well known that Stewart and Andy had no use for all the extra stuff. And the fact of the matter is Sting is a much bigger name. I'm sure he easily could have imposed his will on the band again, but he didn't. That is a truely selfless act, because we all know he likes that stuff!

I guess all I'm trying to say is that I really think Sting is one of the coolest guys on the planet again. Well, tied with Stewart and Andy.... and the late Chris Farley.

You wrioe a piece of art... I ever thought Sting is a cool man, the same as Stewart and Andy..that's the reason I loved this band... from their music and their musicians... they all are coolest guys!!! and their sound style is so cool!!! 8)

Edited to add..... And this is not a slight against Sting in any way! But is it just me, or did Sting start to get all nostalgic the second Stewart said he wasn't interested in a reunion anymore? I know that if I was in his position, and my bandmate who has openly wanted a reunion for years suddenly said, ah, I'm done with this. It's over, let it go people. Hmmm, well I think I would all of a sudden want to reunite as well, just a thought, hahah.

this whole tour is well over due. If it wasn't for Stewart getting Sting to join his group he have never been the pop star he has become. Sting owes Stewart a lot of praise.

Alex, I was thinking that too. It's like how people who are desperate for a relationship are the ones who can't even get a date. I know I didn't meet my husband until I stopped looking and focused on my career instead.

For the record, Sting looked incredible today...he looks much better IRL than in photos. MUCH better, which surprised me. He had on an outfit that was kind of punk rock, but not in a "trying too hard" kind of way. He does seem to be in kind of a different mental place and I'm hopeful about it, too.

Alex- I met Tessa back in 83 during the tour! My dad's cousin Patricia was a backup singer for part of the tour so of course all of my family got to go see the show, meet the boys, and Tessa and Patricia stayed with my grandmother while in town. Where was I during all this? I was 5.

Didn't get to go. However I met Tessa- she smelled nice!

I believe Sting knows he owes Stewart alot. If it wasn't for Stewart, Sting's solo career may not have got off the ground. Yes he's a great songwriter but it was The Police that got him noticed. While I'm a big Sting fan I'm glad there will no Sting solo songs performed. I'm looking forward to Stewarts drumming. I just wish we could get a better view of his performance. It's so hard to see around his kit.

Alex I felt the same way like you at Sting.

But I had a dream; I was in a stadium where Sting will do a concert, and I talked with Sting (in my dream of course) and he told me that he likes me as a Police's fan. In my dream I didn't feel the angry with Sting.

Next day I think about that dream, so I decided to forgive Sting, no matter if is not a Police's reunion could happen...

Then, in a few time, Sting said about the nostalgic, and yes, he started to reconsider about it, after Stewart said he was not interested anymore in a Police joint.

For me, everything The Police do is magic, magic, magic...

And for sure I love all guys of my lovely trio, but well, my favorite was, is and still being KK.

While I used to be upset with Sting since he essentially hi-jacked then left the band; I forgave him and bought his albums although never really declaring myself a "Sting Fan" (I was too loyal to Sewart!) I think that I bought his albums and saw him in concert just to hold on to the bit of the Police. But the fact of the matter is, Sting and Stewart just had different agendas from day one and Stewart was always having to fight Sting's more jazz-laden tendencies.

So, in retrospect, I am happy that the Police stopped making albums when they did. I list Synchronicity as my least favorite Police album mostly because their sound really changed in a direction that only Sting could have taken them. Since I was a fan of Stewart, I felt like the earlier albums provided a better vehicle for his drumming style.

Anyhow... at this point in time I really see Sting coming full circle. I believe that he wants to be here and be apart of this. Maybe he just got bored. I mean, he was playing the Lute for crying out loud!! What would be next for him? Xylaphone?

I grew bored of Sting some time back, so think of myself more as a Stewart/Police fan now. He did good though, and I'm so glad he pllued his head out of his butt and desided to reunite.

HA! yes, Mrs. G. Sting got a little played out and his albums became so formulaic after Ten Summoner's Tales. All down hill from there really. 10 Songs per album. 1 country song, one song with someone rapping in a different language, one song that could act as lithium for the dying.

Maybe he realized (10 years too late!) that he needed a kick in the pants!!

I agree with what everyone has written... And I do give kudos to Sting for seemingly eating some humble pie & finally deciding to do this. I think he almost owed it to Andy, Stewart AND all the Police fans that were left hanging because he wanted his solo career. Now at least we have come full circle & maybe even start a new one...

(Stewart was always my favourite too... so much energy & humour!!)
