Background Stingers

Anyone hear a perfect recording rendition of Sting in the background?
Awesome. I got goosebumps when I saw the Drumset Logo.

Agreed. When I saw the old logo on Stews bass drum, I got goose bumps and a grin from ear to ear.

Sting has been using those backup vocal samples since the ten summoners tales tour, 93-94. I'm not sure if i dig them.

I'd rather they didn't use anything except Andy and Stewart.

...but I understand what Sting is doing, did you hear how he slighty changed the chorus melody? Awesome! He wanted the good backups for the nice harmony.

It did sound great.
Cheers.

Well it's not quite a Leif Garrett concert... but I hate it when musicians
use tapes (even in a three-piece).

It was a great performance!!!

The Police always used little ' tricks ' to get the live sound just right.. I do not have a problem with it now or then.

Does anyone have a mp3 of the song? I need it on my walkman!!!!

While I thought the performance was fantastic and loved it, I wonder if Andy's or Stewart's mics were even on. I was hoping we could at least hear them a little. But tapes are an improvement over what they did on the "Synchronicity" tour, at least on the Omni show.

I remember watching "Around the World" when I was pretty young not knowing there was any post-production involved, stupidly thinking, Wow! Stewart's and Andy's background vocals sound so much like Sting's.

It's really no different than NIN using presequenced material or any other band that relies on complex sequencing for their songs. It's just easier to pick out because it's a voice and you can't see a mouth moving! It's not like they're not actually performing!

I was unsure of it at first as I keep remembering the Ashlee Simpson moment on SNL  (not that I like her)

But looking at it again on you-tube I think it's just another tool somebody uses like echo etc.

I hope that Stewart & Andy sing. I've spent the last 20 years listening to recordings of The Police. I want to see/hear them live, stripped down to how they started. Just 3 men, making the music that has been part of the soundtrack of my life.

Having said that they could come on stage with Stewart on the spoons, Andy playing a comb & paper and Sting twanging an elastic band against his forehead and I'll be there. But since Stewart asked my vote is for him and Andy to sing because I love their singing -It’s magic! :D
It would be ok on any other day!

The best backing vocals on their live recordings are always Stewart on the verses of So Lonely and the chorus of Walking on the Moon. They should just have Andy and Stewart sing on the stuff from the first three albums and get one or two backing vocalists (again, I suggest David Rasner) to handle the more nuanced Ghost and Synchronicity stuff.

Pre-recorded vocal tracks tend to kill the intensity and interplay between the musicians. I saw Sting solo a few years back and he got blown off the stage by his opening act (Annie Lennox). I hope that Sting won't bring his recent way of doing things to the Police tour.

Well Stewart did ask at Whiskey a Go Go

Three Choices..

Do Wop Babes

Andy & Stew

or Samples..

To be honest he didn't seem that keen on singing!

I think samples is better than having backing singers..
