From Backstage-Police rehearsal show open to Sting.com folks

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 07 Feb 2007 14:46

Well, guys...looks like what we feared has come to pass. According to Stephen over at the Backstage, Sting.com legacy members are now able to enter a raffle for 20 tix to a Police rehearsal show at the Whiskey in L.A. on Feb. 12.

Don't kill me, I'm just repeating what's already there. TO NEW PEOPLE JOINING US: Joining Sting.com at this point is futile. "Legacy" Sting.com members are people who've been on board over there for at least a year. No, there is nothing similar available to either StewartCopeland.net or AndySummers.com Myspace page members nor mailing list folks, nor anybody over at BackstageCafe.com.

02.07.07 Would you like to attend ''The Police Rehearsals''?

On February 12, 20 Sting.com legacy members will be able attend The Police Rehearsals - to commemorate The Police's 30th anniversary. Sting.com have secured credentials so that 20 legacy members can be there to attend this historic event which will take place late morning at the famous Whisky A Go Go on Sunset Boulevard.

Any Sting.com Legacy member who wishes to be have their name entered in a draw to attend "The Police Rehearsals" should log in to the community area at Sting.com, visit the Contests message board, and read the thread entitled "Attend the Police Rehearsals!" for details of how to enter. After the event, we would like the winners to each submit to us 250 words that describes their experience of the day - we can say with some certainty that none of you will be lost for words!

You have until midnight on February 8 to express your interest in attending. Sting.com will draw names on February 9 and advise the winners that day that of their success.

As I have mentioned in other posts, this blows. Nowhere in the description of the paid memberships does it say anything about Legacy members. There is no evidence that such a thing even exists until after you've paid your money to get full access to the site. So when you buy a membership, you do so fully expecting to be able to participate in this sort of thing. It's almost a bait and switch. :x

I'm sorry to be so negative, but this whole scenario is making me truly grumpy. I hope to God this isn't an indication of how this whole tour (assuming there is one) is going to be handled.

!!! Seriously? You've said that before (the "legacy member" issue), but it just dawned on me what you meant.

That's pretty seriously uncool. I join you in your hoping, for what it's worth.

Eh, no biggie. If anything, I see this as good news, and the closest thing to a "confirmation" that a tour is forthcoming. Why else would they be rehearsing after the Grammy show?

I'm not that worked up about tickets. I'm viewing this (possible) tour as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, that I honestly never thought we'd see. So I'm resigned to probably having to go after-market (eBay or some scummy ticket broker), pay outrageous dollars, and get great seats that way. Just the fact that the chance to see The Police Live again exists is enough for me - I really don't care how tickets are distributed, as long as they're out there somewhere!

I'm gonna keep my mouth shut because what I'd like to say right now is not nice at all.

Yeah. I keep editing and re-editing...this is disappointing, and doesn't send a very hopeful message about the role Stewart and Andy will play in the reconstituted lineup. Sigh.

As I just mentioned in the other thread, though, Sting has a bunch of solo gigs booked. Which could mean we'll have chances to see Stewart with Gizmo or Oysterhead this year, should this entire Police project turn out to be nothing but a Sting solo project with the other two relegated to background positions.

I was an Outlandos Fan Club member, but when it turns online was to hard to join it about paying the membership... isn't justice for whom were devoted fans for years... I think this is a nightmare... many miles aways from there (L.A.) and me here while THE POLICE reuniting for a rehearsal... I really envy of those fans from first world

...but there is if the Sting.com members are getting preferential treatment over the rest of us.

i dunno, i'm just a fan for the sake of the music. if i were a Sting fan i'd be different. Stewarts drumming is why i'm here. Without Stewart, the Police wouldn't be as cool. I'm not in this for a freebie. It isn't going to make any difference to anything anywhere. When poeple win the Lottery, i cheer them on and keep my $2.00 in my pocket.

Yeah, I'm hoping Stewart and Andy have up their sleeve, but if Sting.com is already announcing it over there and we haven't heard a peep over here, I'm not gonna get my hopes up. I sure hope someone comes clean about what is up with all that.

This is absolutely unacceptable and I hope Stewart and Andy do something about it.
