Police tour announcement

Do you think Stewart will notify us on THIS website before it goes public that they're doing a reunion concert tour - if they are doing one?

I really hope so. Being that I've never been to a concert like this before, how soon could I expect to buy tickets to this? I mean if we knew in advance, would the tickets be available for sale at our local arenas so WE would get the first shot at them? Or do they only go on sale after it's officially announced to the public making it essentially a free-for-all?

We'll probably just have to wait and see, hon. Sounds to me like the press is getting wind of various things well before the band would like them to release details...so whatever plans that have been laid may change.

I just read something to the effect that they'll play a few shows, then see how it goes, which will make sense. In any event, you'll probably get to see them - if they only play a few shows, but there's not monster demand for more...well, there won't be monster demand, and you'll get a ticket.

If there IS a lot of demand, they'll play more shows, and there'll be more chance to get tickets, especially if you're willing to travel to see them. Keep checking back here, cause folks will likely post updates on whatever's happening locally for them.

How could there not be HUGE demand to see them all back together again!? I think every place they go, they'll sell out the stadiums. Don't most concerts get sold-out really fast? Why should the Police reunion be any different?

Well, just think about how hard it would be to organize a tour like this. The guys haven't played for over 20 years...one would assume there'll be huge demand, but there could be unexpected factors. One is ticket price. Will this be a $75 show? Or a $200? One might imagine young folks wouldn't be so interested if it were the latter. Are they going to play festivals? Will other bands be on the bill?

There are just a lot of details to work out. I would imagine you'll have plenty of time to find out how to buy tickets before they go on sale.

I hope Stewart lets us know first, even if it's just hours before his managment gives word... not sure why, just want it that way.

My main concern is that I want to try to get front row, center seats. That's why I want to know about it as soon as possible. Those stupid radio stations always buy out the good seats and then you have to try to win their stupid contests in order to get them. How much do you think front row, center seats would be for this anyway? I hope it's not too expensive. I can't afford much.

Also, even if younger people aren't interested in attending this, I'm sure that people 30 and older would still fill the stadiums.

Well, you could try pretty hard to win one of those radio station promotions...but otherwise I'd say it'll depend on where the show is, and how many shows they play. If it's 30+ or more, you may get lucky with only $200-300. If it's fewer, like 20, I'd be amazed if you get a ticket in the front row for less than $500. Probably more in a place like New York or L.A. A LOT more.

The big buzz here in Boston is The Police will play Fenway Park
July28 & 29 - One station claimed tickets will start at $175.00-
Who knows if this is just spec based on the other bands that played the park last summer.

My colleague and I did a quick calculation today.

The Police have been offered $300 million or so (assuming
the decline of the dollar to 2 dollars/pound and I don't know
how to make a pound sign on my keyboard.)

They are playing 80 dates, let's round up to 100, so that's
3 million per date for The Police, and Mr. Cohl gets a, say
50% markup, so will charge 4.5 million per date.

An arena holds about 15000 (say 20000) and a stadium
50000. 4,500,000/50,000 = $90/ticket in a stadium and
2.5-3.5x that in an arena. So the estimate of $5K for a
small club ain't far from the truth.

In fact, 5 grand for a small club is really cheap. This is huge. I'm terrified at how much it's going to cost.

Those are some scary ticket prices. I hope this whole event isn't about the money. The music industry really gouges concertgoers already, anyway. It would be a truly ironic twist if the Police became a part of this problem, whereas other acts less known for their altruism are taking things in a FAR more fan-friendly direction.

To wit: I just heard Ozzfest this year is supposed to be FREE. Gratis. Like, it doesn't cost ANYTHING. Heard it on the news about a half hour ago, incredulous as it sounds. I sat here stumped as to how it could be pulled off. They mentioned that sponsors were footing the bill for the show. I guess at an all-day event like Ozzfest, there's a huge enough amount to be made on concessions and merchandise sales to make up for the lost revenue.

I hope you're offbase on those prices, Dive! My wallet REALLY hopes so!

I work for Colin Newman who is Ozzy's business manager, in fact I have produced DVD for both Ozzy & Kelly. Colin & Sharon are experts when it comes to making money from Ozz Fest / the Osborunes brand but they are forward thinking enough & have the experience to make Ozz fest work via sponsorship deals although it seems unlikely it would be free, nothing would suprise me.

The cash is in the merchandise folks. $60 t-shirts are where it's at. I'm sure the tickets won't be cheap but the real con game is getting some sucker (uh, yeah, like me) to pay you $60 to wear an advertisement for yourself on their chest. Freaking brilliant, whoever thought of that one.
