PT. 4

The surprise EC taping contest is launched and again, my entry is submitted within a few minutes of that, too.

Then about a week before JB2, Dirty emails me and tells me that I'm in as Flagbearer. Several local residents in my neighborhood had reported an audible wookie yell that could be heard from many miles away, and there is still some wookie fur on the ceiling from when I read that email. DirtyMartini had just awarded me, some random Canadian wookie schmuck, the last available opportunity for anyone, to officially bear, hold, and hoist Ole' Green Glory for an entire concert.

This calls for a personalized T-shirt! Oh boy. This trip is shaping up to be the best trip of my life. How much better could it get? Well, quite a bit better unbeknownst to me.....

PT. 5

After sitting on the edge of my seat watching winning people's posts and reactions for a week, I figured the EC taping wasn't in the cards for me and I better just accept it be happy for the others, which I was. But my luck seemed to be waaayy growing, and a few days before I left for New York, I found out that I'd won a ticket to the EC taping after all, due to someone not being able to attend. Wow. I'd never won any kind of draw before, and now all of a sudden I've hit it twice in a week. Something is wrong. I'm never this lucky, so I went out and bought a lotto ticket. I still have bruises from all the pinch marks I've given myself.

I flew all night on the red-eye on the eve of JB2. I didn't sleep well on the plane. I was waaayy too excited. I was on my way to see the final 3 Police performances, I was going to sign the Flag, I was the official Flagbearer, and two of my three tickets I had obtained because my favorite artist had committed the biggest form of enablement and generosity by any rockstar ever. So fuck sleep. I have adrenaline, caffeine, and testosterone reserves to keep me going.

When I landed at JFK, there was a voicemail waiting for me, and 7 texts from Mrs.Tama urging me to call home so she could read an email from Dietmar (Ya, I know, no mobile internet; I'm a technological Flintstone). In previous emails, I had joked with Dietmar about getting backstage at JB2. At least I thought I was joking. Apparently Dietmar didn't. At this point my heart rate is up to about 160 bpms. The voicemail was from Dietmar, and the jist of it was this: "Get ye wookie ass to the vip gates, ASAP." So I grab my shuttle to the hotel, check in, pickup my personalized JB2 shirt from the front desk (which thankfully was delivered on time) designed by the multi-talented Dive (thanks, hon!). I love my shirt.

So I do the 4 S's (shave, shit, shower, shampoo) at mach7, and head out to Jones Beach.......

Awww Dude!

I didn't know you cared!

:D

I also am sorry we didn't cross paths in NYC. Can hardly believe it in fact.

Now back to your regularly scheduled pause....
If I'm holding a beer, some of it is probably going to get on him, you know?

Yes, the more fashionable residents of Kashyyyk do, in fact, shave.

PT 6.

While I rode the hotel shuttle to the bus loop, I checked again that I had everything: camera, sharpie, wallet, phone; camera, sharpie, wallet, phone. But when I reached for my camera to take a test shot, it felt a little light. OMFG! I forgot the lithium batteries! FUUUUUCK! There is no way in hell I'm going to this show with no camera. No way. Maybe the other 2 shows, but not this show. I beg the driver to rip me back to the hotel and back so I can grab the batteries. He complies. And I give him a nice tip. Gotta keep the good vibes going....

As I'm riding a Long Island transit bus to Jones Beach, I start watching transit TV (looking out the window). This makes me start thinking about the 70s NY thug classic, "The Warriors".

I am subtly reassured and grateful that I'll have fellow nutter dudes (howstupidmrbates and PDXracer) to travel the streets of New York with during the wee hours of the morning on the way back to the airport after MSG. You gotta love SC.net.

PT. 7

The Jones Beach bus doesn't run right into the parking lot at that time of day, so I make the mile long trek to the theatre and I'm not hearing any music. That's good; it means I'm on time.

I approach the gates and see a few figures standing off in the distance. As I get closer, I recognize Dietmar, point at him, and he points back. Then the first thing he says is, "First I recognize the shirt, and then I recognize the person!".

Then he gives me my gift from SamburuSunset. (Thanks so much, SS!)

As we begin to lime and share laughs, it quickly becomes evident just how cool the D-man is. He's standing with stinginintherain and the other girl from Argentina with a really long username, (sorry I forgot your name!) and some other Sting-car-chasing lady with a bristol board message. Four or five more people show up. I recognize a few of them from TPT from when I was a member there: Carter, Andy, Policedog, Roger.

They all had black "Legend" shirts. My STEW shirt was waaayy nicer though. Most of the people there were pitters. It's waaayy hot, and there is no shade.

I think I prefer the Bella-coined phrase "pit punks."
