Other Concerts

Four days of rock 'n roll!!!

Saturday - Fiction Plane @ the Mt. Adams Music Festival in Cincinnati, OH! It was awesome. Met Linda from Scotland, Ana from Buenos Aires, and Analia from Uraguay. Front row. Was in for the soundcheck.

Sunday - Fiction Plane @ The Bluebird in Bloomington, IN. Had an extra ticket...went unused! BUT...ROCK!! This is Pete's hometown and the show had a very special vibe because of it. The air conditioner in the club was a wind tunnel though. Holy cow, I thought I was going to freeze despite moving around and dancing.

Monday - AutoVaughn @ Ear X-tacy in Louisville, KY. Never heard of AutoVaughn? Me either...until they opened for Fiction Plane in Bloomington. And they really rock!! :) So, free show at a local music store, hell yeah...I'll be there. Got recognized by the band for being at the Bloomington show (HEEE!) and got them to sign their Bloomington set list (which is what I collect, in case you guys didn't know!).

Tuesday - Your Vegas @ The Basement in Columbus, OH. Your Vegas opened for Fiction Plane when they toured with The Bravery. Loved them even more this time! And since I came in second place for their music video contest, I figured I'd go on out and see them. Made a friend in the Columbus area come along despite not being familiar...and she walked out with a t-shirt and their CD!

Rock on!

Mickey Hart Band, Neil Diamond, moe., Radiohead in the past month. My Morning Jacket this Saturday in Louisville. Three Bob Dylan shows the weekend after that.

Sting could learn a lot from Neil Diamond ... a genuine and gracious talent.

We could all learn something from Radiohead. Amazing.

I should learn not to drink so much beer at moe.

Neil Diamond ticket was $17.50 and I was much closer in the rafters of Canseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis than I was for $200+ for The Police (even with the $100 insider presale BS) at Churchill Downs. Live and learn.

More Oysterhead please.
Thanks for always being yourself Stewart

Totally! Love Steve Smith!

Is it me, or did he look like Derek Smalls back in their early 80's heyday? :D

Dont know. No real rationale. Just something about him hits me just right. Was absolutely not a fan of his predecessor, Steve Augeri, I think his name was. Can't explain.

I love live music, and if I think the band is worth the travel...well, you bet I'll be there. I did take Wednesday off of work to recover though. LOL!!

Man, I wish I wasn't broke from last week. Eddie Vedder and Liam Finn (Neil Finn's son. I love, love love Neil Finn if you didn't already know) will be playing this Saturday and Sunday at Warner Theatre in Washington D.C.

Con, Amy, you should go for me!

And El-Vez is playing at the Black Cat tonight in DC!!! (thought I'm not going). Tomorrow nightI might check out some new bands playing locally. One of them is signed to Jive Records, the same label that the Dares have signed with.

I saw Liam when he was playing with Neil on the Try Whistling This tour. I would love to see him some other time when I've have a chance to save up some more dough ;)

Just saw the Regeneration tour (Flock of Seagulls - sucked. ABC - great. Belinda Carlisle - not a fan of her solo stuff. Human League - great).

Toad the Wet Sprocket in a few weeks. After that, a real dry spell for concerts.

I think I've shot my wad for a while. Can a woman say that?

I saw Rodrigo y gabriela last night at the taberncale. Its old church that holds about 1000. but thats main floor maybe couople hundred and then 2 levels of balcony.
anyway, they were phenominal.
They are a mexican couple who play acoustic guitars but they are loaded up with effects & pedals & plugged up.
They mix heavy metal {metallica, led zepplin, oink fluyd} w/ calssical latin guitar + they create percussion on the body as they play flamenco style.

They of course have a website and a myspace so anybody who likes guitar you should check them out.

They played for 2 hours, full board energy and strumming, patting etc w/o picks! Rodrigo stands and moves most of the time and they encourage the audience to whoop and sing back as they play.
Happy Halloweenie

Liam Finn's band is coming back to DC next month (Sept. 6 which is a Saturday) at the Rock and Roll Hotel:

I've never been to this venue but NE DC is a dodgy and somewhat dangerous neighborhood.

Wow. Looks like all these folks are on major league tours; Rodrigo et. al. and Flock of Seagulls are playing here next week. I think Liam Finn might be opening for Squeeze, for which I have tix Sept. 7...

But man. Seeing him and Vedder at the Warner would be awesome. I saw Johnny and June Cash there back in 1995 or so and still remember the general fabulousness of the venue.
