How'd you come up with your username?

Postby BongoBoy on 05 Aug 2008 14:29

Well...I like Bongo's and I'm a boy.

really it's because way back in the 80's I would tag along with some buddies who had a Rolling Stones cover band in Toronto. I would bring my bongo's with a tiny double splash cymbal set up with tamborine etc.

They called me BongoBoy....

Their band has evolved in Classic Albums Live, you may have seen some shows...it's pretty big now. They do Led Zepplin, U2...they even did The Police...and another one is coming up. They were supposed to ask me to drum...but to be honest, I would have to have Stewart say "that's Ok" or I wouldn't do it. I tell them to do original music...too old for covers.

That's my boring story.
I was in high school when The Police arrived in the US...and from the start Stewart was for me (while most of my friends were interested in Sting). As a result of my fascination with Stewart, I would get the "Oh, she's a Copeland girl" remark quite often, rather sarcastically I might add (gee I wonder where those "tools" are today...I guarantee they won't be at MSG this week courtesy of Stewart).

So there you have the "Copeland_girl" portion...and the "5" was just added because of my computer programming training...just can't shake the alpha/numeric methodology. 8)
Laurie, I thought you were Copeland_girl5 because Stewart's already got Copeland girls 1-4 :D

On any other day is my absolute favorite Police song. I added the underscores because I hate when words get all bunched up (it must be an english major thing) :D

When I signed up with sting.com a few years ago I'd grown tired of coming up with clever user names and no one was using it so, finally, I could go as just me. Because I had a sting.com membership when tp.com started up, it carried over for the first year so the name stayed the same. I kept it for this forum just to be consistent.

I'm going to bump this thread up for old time's sake. Wish I'd seen it first, thanks Tamadude! It's a history lesson for those of us stuck inside this 2nd weekend in a row. Can you say Cabin Fever?

Knowing the music of The Police pretty well but not being familiar with Stewart's non-Police work, when a Nutter of my acquaintance told me that her name here was "SamburuSunset", the reference went right over my head. When I tried to recall it later, "SambucaSubaru" was as close as I could get. Hey, look, it's got the "Sam--" and the "Su--", so it's not half-bad for just taking a stab at it!

(At the MSG pre-show, I met a Nutter who told me he was a gearhead and Sambuca was one of his favorite quaffs, so he really liked my name. Thanks, buddy!)

So my screen name is essentially an homage to SamburuSunset, but at first I think she thought I was mocking her. Far from it! I think she's the aces!

Well, my user name comes from a Green Day album, Shenanigans, wich a friend of mine couldn't spell right: he always said Shangeris. So, I liked it and it was actually the coolest thing I found. 8) 8)

Such a good bump lt, I'd never seen this before either and it's funny and interesting to read everyone's responses. Had to clean half my cup of tea off the keyboard reading smax's response. Weird (and painfull) how hot bevarages can sometimes gain exit through your nose!

Maybe I just shared too much then.

My only priority in choosing my user name was that it had to include a reference to a Copeland song.

I read through the thread, and saw that I'm not the only "Any Other Day." Popular song among this crowd, clearly.

Though, now having listened to a lot more of Stewart's stuff than when I first joined, I'd have to say that "Libido Torpedo" would also have been a pretty awesome username.
