Now now kids - play nice. Yep it's getting a bit busy in the forums and there is always the temptation to say 'I was here first' but we should keep this a fun place to be. Most of the people who have been posting here for a while are very cool, I'm sure the noobs are no different, just a little slow on the uptake.

Just keep yer eyes on the prize - Feb 11th and whatever comes after!

Nowadays we are a big community and everyone have different ways to express ourselves...some shinny, some louder, some reserved, some writting a lot, or other ones only read and dislike to write... but everybody have a respectul way of being and have our human rights defended into international laws... I didn't read any rules about you mentioned... so if someone like to be a moderator put your candidature and if him or her were elected for the post and designed the rules on this forum we close our mouths with a big zipper or wrapped around our fingers... but it would turn the forum as a dictature! So be yourself no matter what other says ;)

Ok, not to drag on the wanking...

1. Obviously this forum is exploding, with new and old blood, and that's a great thing. No doubt it will only get more so in the coming months. Up till now we haven't really needed a lot of rules or etiquette to follow, but I can see it becoming something worth thinking about now before everything goes completely insane.

2. It can be hard to navigate through the threads when there seem to be multiple ones started daily, often dealing with the same exact topics (set lists, websites, tour dates, etc.) So definitely, I think, it's polite to first look for a thread on the topic you want to talk about before starting a new one.

3. I have no problem with silly fan chatter, drooling, whatever. But perhaps we'd be well served with some more sub forums, to help people find the topics they're most interested in? One specifically for tour news/info/gossip, one for general chat about Stewart's other projects, maybe one "off-topic" forum where folks who want to can feel freer to just chatter away on what might be borderline fitting in one of the other topics?

4. If so, perhaps Eugenio & Gio could use some moderator volunteers for the subforums, so they don't have to do all the "Policing" themselves. Merging topics on the same subject, or moving to the correct forums...lots of large message boards do this so all the work and responsibility isn't left for one or two people to deal with.

5. Long posts, I don't have an issue with provided there's some fresh substance to them. Everything can't all be one-liners.

Anyway, just my thoughts for the day...

I agree with sockii, especially on numbers 2 (Yes, I think we should look for a related thread before we start a new one), and 3 (yes, I too I love all the chatter and "he's so cute" and "what set list do you dream of"). OH, and definitely the suggestion of more forums for "off topic" threads and things like that. Once a message board gets as busy as this one, it's almost a necessity to have more forums available.

As for cpriddims' request to just post a link to articles, I have to respectfully disagree. I prefer to have the entire article posted in the thread along with the link to the article. The reason being that sometimes I click on the link and my browser will not open the link and then I'm left with no article at all.


What's the saying?: "You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can please some of the people some of the time". Maybe Gio and Eugenio could make a poll for us to vote on whether we want more subforums and if so, what they would be.

Or when people post only links, with no explanations of what they are, I will very rarely bother to click. Simply because on a lot of forums, people will post "hilarious jokes" that take forever to load, crash my browser, or just...aren't...funny...

Honestly, I think attempts to play 'Net nanny are futile at best, at the moment. If you think we're getting a lot of new people now? You wait until the guys start playing a for-real tour. Or even next week, after they go on international television. Unless there's a new Police board with forums, this place is going to get so busy we'll be lucky to be able to log in, much less post anything.

I think it's pretty unrealistic to expect people to contain their excitement over what's happening. I do think you should consider that all the excitement that's coming along *with* the extraneous posting is partly what's motivating people to go out and find news.

I can't imagine anyone trying to slap a trademark on his own way of enjoying their music, and calling it THE way. The fact of the matter is that this band, like a lot of different bands, means different things to different people. I skip a fair amount of posts myself, but I don't think telling people what they can and can't post is the way to handle it, nor is calling attention to the skipping. What do *I* care if people want to post technical details about something I'm not interested in? Especially given that people from all over the world come here with different sensibilities and ways of sharing them. I'd sure hate for those folks to be scared off - especially the many users we have for whom English is a second language - for fear of violating a bunch of content-related "rules".

I admit I've found it tacky when people have only posted here a handful of times, then start writing posts to Stewart begging him to hire them, but I think that's probably par for the course as well, especially when it's not that easy to find contact information for his support staff. At any rate, he's been famous for a long time, and I'm sure nothing like that shocks him very much any more. I do worry it's going to make him shy away from coming here, though, if all he ever sees is requests for him to perform personal favors for people, the sheer volume of which I'm sure no mortal being would ever be able to accommodate.

All that said, let's not make this into a nightmare for Gio, OK? I'm sure he's got plenty of stuff going on without trying to enforce a lot of content-related "rules" for adults who ought to be able to handle themselves appropriately. That said, maybe subforums is the way to handle it. I doubt Gio or Eu. has the time to do that right now, is the only thing. I think Sock's plan for volunteer moderators is a good one, too. Other ideas might include limiting the sheer number of topics one person can start per day, or requiring a wait of X number of minutes between posts. I'm on a really huge political discussion board, and those rules seem to work well - also, people can be given a rating of 1 to 4 for the content of their posts, with folks with higher rating averages given more privileges (removing offending "troll" posts, etc.)

We've heard, however, there *will* be a new Police board soon, and maybe that'll serve as the diffuser for some of all this energy. Maybe suggestions we make in this thread will be taken into account in the setting-up of the new place. Probably that will be the case, and having had this discussion will turn out to be a good thing. However, I think expecting this one to stay a nice quiet little community is not very practical. Just some $.02.

It's obvious that the longer-term users on this forum are feeling a little besieged at the moment and it *is* annoying that suddenly there are multiple threads on the same/similar subjects. It means we can't use the forum in the way we are used to using it (I imagine this must be even more exaggerated for those who've been forum members since the very early days) and no longer have the sense of knowing who is a trusted source. I realise I'm a relative newcomer here but it became obvious to me very quickly who was a trusted source of information, who was funny or entertaining, who was techy etc. So maybe the best way to handle it until things calm down again is just to look at who is the originator of the post.

But let's continue to be welcoming to all the new people, just as you all were to me and others - we're all here for the same basic reason and it's a positive one. Let's keep it posi people!

I dont think moderators is a good idea... I saw lot of them in different forums that build conflicts between forum users and turn fascists...

Some critizise the way of someone to post their topics...but is the way they have, the freedom they have... I am not defend them in a 100%, but is their way to express themselves. On the other hand I really disagree with forum users who uses any topics to attack Sting... for me this is an insane practice comparative than the other ones that only wants to share their emotions... if someone are freezen people I respect their feelings but if they deslikes a thread only needs to turn the page... without any bad words a topic isn't bad or mad

To me it's all in the thread title. If there's to much info in with the link, I lose intrest and usually don't click the link.

There are allot of, "Stewart your awesome!" threads's being started, maybe there can be one thread where there all together?
