I was thinking that, too, although Barbara, Ian's daughter, told me the last time I saw them in DC back in November that there is an offshoot of the Bellydance Superstars coming this year on a tour called Le Serpent Rouge featuring the Indigo. This troupe is more tribal and would include a live band, which I think would be a cool opening act for the Police reunion shows along with the Dares. The Smiths or The English Beat would be awesome and so would BDDS but the Dares would be cool too. I also think Matisyahu, Incubus or the Foo Fighters would all appreciate the importance of the event.

Please no U2. It would steal our thunder, and tickets. Stay in Dublin guys!

and I would add some band from today such as...let me see...

RADIOHEAD (I sincerely don't like them but I would say they would perfectly fit the line-up)
EVANESCENCE (they remind me some of those darker bands of that time, I would add them)
FOO FIGHTERS
PEARL JAM (as well as Foo Fighters, they love The Police...I'm sure they would pay $$$ to be part of this line-up).

It could be a two-days Festival with The Police headlining both night! Sold out of course...something like San Bernarndino US Festival.

I would name a lot more bands...what would you add?

red hot chili peppers would fit well with the police i think.

I dunno, guys...I'm watching Green Day on VH1 Storytellers, and the guys could do a lot worse.

I remember reading an interview w/SC where he talked about dismissing them as a flash in the pan in an argument with his niece, and was happy to be proven wrong...

I saw 'em at Lollapalooza in 1995 and felt the same way: they'd be young kids who'd be terrible, and was just blown away. Aside from the fact that I adore the lyrical content of their new album, they sure wouldn't be boring to watch.

Green Day is one of the best acts I've seen live. And I've seen hundreds of acts.

I can't really picture anyone opening for The Police on this tour (besides the obvious Fiction Plane of course)... I DID read a few minutes ago on the Policetour.com boards where someone mentioned that if U2 were to open, it probably wouldn't be a tour, but a single concert staged at the GRAND CANYON, and that THE GRAND CANYON still couldn't hold that many people...

Am I the only one that thinks that there shouldn't BE an opening band? I mean, why bother, you know? Get the boys to play for an hour and a half, have an intermission, come back for another 2 hours...

Hey there, you are remembering something Ian said on AUI. He was the one who said they were a flash in the pan and had a bet with his neice that they wouldn't last. I have no idea how I remember that, but I evidently need to get out more.

Then we'd have to fight all the Foo fans for tickets (even if it would be the best double-bill ever as far as I'm concerned!)

That said, I'd cast a vote for Taylor and his side band, the Coattail Riders. Those guys were awesome when I saw them last year and had a sound that would totally mesh with the Police, IMO.

That's funny Sockii, I was gonna say Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders too....haven't seen them live myself, but it'd be great exposure for a relatively unknown band. You couldn't go wrong with Green Day or the Foo for that matter, but it would make tickets be more scarce fo shizzle...
