"Lost'' creator J.J. Abrams, actress Minnie Driver and film composer and former drummer for The Police Stewart Copeland will be the big names appearing at San Jose's Cinequest film festival, festival organizers announced today.
The 17th edition of the South Bay film festival begins on Feb. 28th. Festival Executive Director Halfdan Hussey said the 2006 festival generated $3.75 million in economic impact in downtown San Jose. He believes this year's festival will be even bigger.
"We've got 70-some-thousand people coming to town,'' Hussey said.
The festival will include more than 40 U.S. or world premiere feature films as well as short and animated films.
While Cinequest is growing every year, it remains intimate enough so attendees can actually interact with the writers, directors and actors who make the films, according to Hussey.
"About 70 percent of the films will have the artists available to talk after the film and answer questions,'' Hussey said.
