Other Concerts

Postby TheEqualizer on 24 Jul 2008 04:50
I was at the Foo Fighters concert earlier this evening in Indy with Kiki, Lady Starblade & a friend of mine from work. It was a good concert & the fieldhouse was almost completely full. Dave is a great frontman & Taylor is all over the drums & gives it his all. I was only able to take a few pics because there was very little light on stage which made picture taking very challenging. http://www.flickr.com/photos/17678487@N ... 343872819/
How's Dave's voice?

EEEE! IndyGirl, it was a blast last night. Great seeing you!!

EQ...his voice sounded great to me...from what I could hear of it. The acoustics in the place were horrible...and I was up over the sound systems so it made things hard to hear.
Aw hell. He didn't play that, did he? :( Here's what he did play:

It Don't Come Easy
What Goes On
Memphis in May
Boys
Liverpool 8
Act Naturally
Yellow Submarine
Never Without You
Choose Love
I Wanna be Your Man
Photograph
Oh My My
With a Little Help from My Friends

Honestly, I was so chuffed to hear "Boys" that anything else would have been gravy on top of it.

Was just looking up prior All-Starr lines-up and what I wouldn't given to have seen either Rick Danko or Dave Edmunds...that said, this year's All-Starrs were pretty fun (Billy Squier, Gary Wright, Colin Hay, all of whom have retained 100% of their respective ranges) but the standout was Edgar Winter, who played Frankenstein in all its glory.

More fun stuff: Watching R. play really enthusiastic drums on Billy Squier's "The Stroke"; the entire ensemble performing "Free Ride"...

You know, it did remind me of a Police show a little bit. There's just nothing like seeing a pro play after 40+ years of experience. I find myself somewhat bored at shows by many twentysomethings these days.

It also looks like Mr. Starr is still having a lot of fun with all this. It's almost like he knows he can't possibly live up to The Legend, so why not have a good time and get out and play a show...He still looks and sounds great, too. A very young 68, I'd say.

For some reason it made me smile to see he's still playing Ludwigs. He was a shameless flirt with all the girls in the audience, too ;)
I saw Ringo at Irving Plaza in NYC a coupla years ago, right after "Choose Love" came out. Great small venue, SRO, but what made it really great was that it was a Roundheads show -- no All-Starrs, all Ringo. What a treat!

Kiki, I'm so glad that you & Lady Starblade were able to make it. EQ, his voice sounded good to me too. He didn't sound like he was holding back at all. Our seats were in a different location that Kiki's & LSB's so we were able to hear somewhat better than they could. I have heard other folks say that the acoustics in the fieldhouse aren't that great.

That's good to hear about Dave's voice. He sounded great at the VH1 Rock Honors but he only sang one song. I was worried given the rescheduled Red Rocks show and some of the recordings I've heard/seen from earlier in the tour where Dave sounded, uh, not so great.

Tonight: 'London Calling' as performed by a slew of Nashville session musicians:
Long Players perform The Clash's London Calling
The Long Players will be back Saturday July 26th at the Mercy Lounge. It's time to play another classic LP in sequence with a lineup of guest performers you could only find in Nashville. Which album you say??

We're finally heeding the call..it's LONDON CALLING. It was summoning us. We will build it. Will you come?

London Calling came out in 1979. It was a pivotal album for The Clash. They had a lot to prove and they came out swinging with a sonic treat of an album that was full of diverse musical elements..rockabilly, reggae, pop..and uncompromising rock. On top of it all was a social conscience and willingness to sing about real issues that lived up to the sticker on the album. They were the only band that mattered. Bold talk. Good marketing. A GREAT album that has stood the test of time. It's a double album with 18 songs but we'll do it, front to back as always, and work up a handful of other Clash songs for an encore set. From London Calling all the way to Train in Vain.

Please join us. 9:30 PM July 26th @ The Mercy Lounge $15. Cover.

Scheduled singers include KENT AGEE from Jane His Wife ; STEVE ALLEN ; BOBBY BARE JR. ; PRU CLEARWATER ; JOEL DAHL from De Novo Dahl ; BOB EVANS from Austrailia¹s Jebidiah ; JAMES INVELTD ; BRAD JONES ; ZAC LINDSEY from Von Guarde ; BILL LLOYD ; TOM MASON; CHUCK MEAD from BR549 ; DAVE PAULSON from The Privates/Pink Spiders ; DAVE PERKINS from Chagall Guevara ; WILLIAM TYLER from Lambchop/Lifeboy

THE LONG PLAYERS ARE:
Steve Allen, Steve Ebe, Brad Jones and Bill Lloyd with Randy Leago and Jim Hoke
Damn. It's getting where I just about can't enjoy this stuff without you people along, you know? Why in hell must we all live in different states? :(

I've got Wire lined up for September and Killing Joke (original line-up) for October - both should be superb!

Not Tourzilla I know but excellent all the same.

Jesus. 'London Calling' was *phenomenal*. The real standout: "I Fought the Law" performed as an encore by Chuck Mead, former lead singer of BR-549 (and who got me into a million fun shows as a teenager in Kansas)...

Wish I'd brought the video cam. It was a note-perfect performance of the album. Scary, almost, except that Bare Jr. looks nothing like Joe Strummer:

Foo Fighter tix went on sale in vegas yesterday. They are playing a tiny venue (I think 1,500). As crazy as it sounds, I think I'm likely gonna take a pass on this.
