Happy Birthday, Moeskido!!

Postby Moeskido on 23 Jul 2008 00:18

My hips are getting sore. Bumps are overrated. Rolls, however....

Bah. Nobody wants to roll with Mo tonight, animal. With good reason: just got home from a sweaty commute. I disgust myself. Call me "Comic Book Guy."

Bongo, it's a good thing we communicate like this, so I can perpetuate your delusional beliefs.

smudge, dear:
"rugged" in this context means "long-lasting" and "high-value" from where I ogle. I'll save any further prurient accolades for private communication. The London coven collectively turned my head so quickly that my neck is still sore, weeks later.
I credit my admitted gluttony to two things. One, an upbringing by a parent who lived through the Depression of the previous century. Seeing food that might go to waste is not something I take casually. Two, the stuff we've all chosen for our notional group meal is all wonderful and I don't want to stop tasting it. So I overindulge. I contain multitudes.

E, your query begs the question: "trivia much?" Dinner tonight will be thawed frozen supermarket salmon remainders (not as lowlife as it sounds; it's nice and cheap), grilled with some sort of obnoxious seasoning, and a side of couscous with fajita spice (which helps silence the Call of the Taco a bit). The beer (already in progress) is a concatenation of Stone Pale Ale (California), Flying Fish Extra Pale Ale (New Jersey), and Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale (Vermont). It's shaping up to be a pale evening, I think. I may actually turn to fruit for dessert, seeing as how DM conscientiously supplied me with far more than I could consume before her return.

Lynn, burritos are fine (and we have a few of the TJ frozen you're describing, as a matter of fact), but tacos are just way too easy to inhale. Stop bumping while I'm pouring ale into my face, please. Whew.

Darlin', given your superb taste in beer, please pour me one while we're bumpin'. I choose the Smuttynose 8) .

Madgrad is correct. But I still dig the attention WHORE for which I'm very NEEDY grateful PATHETIC.

Ahem.

Lynn, Smuttynose's Pale is great, but their Imperial Pale Ale is even better, when you can find it. There's just something about an American brewmaster who has taken a venerable, historical British recipe, and then added TOO MUCH HOPS to the stew (pun intended). There are dozens of these breweries all over the States, doing obnoxiously punk, delicious things (like Pennsylvania's Victory Hop Devil) with dignified, ancient traditions. I love it.

And very little of this might have been possible if it hadn't been for the current owners of Brooklyn Brewery creating alternative beverage distribution channels two decades ago. Without them, very little of this amazing work might be available for people like me.

Sorry to soapbox. We all celebrate master chefs (when we can get a reservation). I celebrate master brewers, too.

I bored everybody with beer history. It's what I do.

Thank you for the attention. 48 would not have been as tolerable without any of you.

DM now has safe haven in Chicago, thanks to Lynne. All praise to a sweet soul who chose to offer comfort to a dicked-over traveler.

It's hard to imagine this much humane sweetness from the Star Trek fans of my college years, but this might be the wine talking.

Either way, thank you all for creating this community. It's very important to us.

Pseudo thread jack!

OMFG, Moe, HONEY, we HAVE to talk. When Mr. Chatchka and I returned to Tampa from Savannah earlier this year, we made two stops at different beverage outlets to buy out Savannah's supply of Victory Hop Devil. This was after exhaustive research and resourcing before our visit. We brought the SUV so that we could bring back kegs if necessary. I gleefully bought all of the Victory Hop Devil in Savannah that day and I'm proudly hoarding what little is left of it in St. Petersburg. (STEWART, please play there again next year so that we have a reasonable excuse to stock up again.)

MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....Beer. I am, at this moment, enjoying a lovely Sierra Nevada, which is, admittedly, a lesser brew. BUT, we have it on tap here at home. And the "on tap" delivery improves it significantly.

(Sadly, we are mourning the discontinuation of the contract brew of Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale, which is all cascade-ey and yummy, and for which our lab, Tupper, is named. Old Dominion Brewery was purchased and the contract brews were the first to go. I hear that Bob and Ellie Tupper are looking about for a new brewer, but no confirmation is available yet.)

Additionally, we are likely returning to Denver over Columbus Day weekend for the Great American Beer Festival. Perhaps you and Kel could meet us there to enjoy some nice hops. Lynne, you in? I could see an after tour, Nutter convention developing here for a worthy event.

Nutter Beer Fest, anyone?

Chatch, it's unlikely I'll be going to Denver anytime soon, despite your good company.

I've heard of Old Dominion, and may have even had something of theirs at one time.

I think we should keep bumping this thread all freakin' year.

Moe honey, if the phrase "all the tacos in the world" includes ChocoTacos, you and I will have a problem, sir.

I've often considered going to GABF! Not in the cards for me this year, but if you go I want to hear all about it!

Chatch, it sounds like you and I are both hop-heads! One thing that I miss from having moved away from Virginia is Hop Pocket. Can't get it here in Chicago.

I do, however, have in the house as we speak the Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA. Hop-o-rama! Dem's good drinkin'.

Schmaf, chocolate is overrated. You're welcome to all of it that DM doesn't want.

Hannafabulous, what ticket would I have won? Or am I densely missing a referential quip?

Dogfish Head is very nice. But I prefer it on tap; the bottled varieties are oddly different and somehow "wrong" for me.

Moe, I live in Florida. Land of Budwieser. (horrors) So you see why we road trip to Georgia which is the closest source of better quality beer.
