Drove to Chicago with two friends, no map, no accomodations, and barely enough money to buy tickets, food and gas, to welcome the Police to their first show of the Synchronicity tour. They played at the old Comisky Park. Open "seating" allowed us to manuever to the second row only because those in the first row couldn't see over the wood barricades. Slept in a Ford Pinto on the way back at a truck stop -- in the passenger seat.
About a week later, saw them again in Cleveland, Ohio. Since I lived in the area, I was able to sleep in my own bed.
However, the same two friends and I were hanging out at the arena many hours before the show, hoping to get a glimpse of our heroes. Lo and behold, a limo drives right by us, and at the base of the slope leading into the arena, out gets Stewart. All I could do was yell, "Stew. Stew. Stew." He had to be about 70 yards from me, but with no one else around, he could hear me. Truth be told, he looked at me like I was an idiot (which I'm sure looked accurate), and proceeded into the arena.
That was 24 years ago, and I remember that week like it was yesterday.
