What "THE POLICE" planned for their 2007 reunion?

Postby Jose on 22 Jan 2007 00:18

One of the surprised news I read in the past days about THE POLICE was an Sting's interview that suggested that he started his solo career for searching new projects as an alone artist and he did all what It seduced. You know that he was involved with different rythms and styles, in this way perhaps he wants to be involved with THE POLICE for more than a reunion concert shows...

On the other hand, Andy sliced the clue that Sting and him thought and discussed that a POLICE return could be more than a predictable reunion... they discussed and had an strong idea of what could be... Stewart said that all is possible, Andy and him are ready for an Sting call, but after their super 8 film he thinks the circle was completed...

I venture that THE POLICE is ready to break the rock scene again... I don't know what will be the essence, but I have a hunch that they will return with a new Opera Prima... I mean more than a reunion show... more than a new song.... perhaps a new Album?

All the latest news told me more than a simple reunion show... rehearsals of more than 30 songs??? What means Andy's and Sting idea of a return? What could be break the rock scene with a return of an old band?

Guess you? Perhaps could'nt be only all what other old bands made like a simple reunion or an album into their youngest style and then they dissapear without lent any new great heritage.

You now the large list of great bands surviving with the rythm and sound of their youngest era or following the rythms and sounds of the new era.... I thinks THE POLICE 2007 project don't follow in this direction...

I mean a great Concert Return with an album that brokes the essence of a predictable return albulm... I bet a mature album with the vibe, sound and energy of THE POLICE... perhaps for an adult contemporary audience?

All is umpredictable for THE POLICE!

What do you think about it?

I supossed that for more of you this theory could be an insane idea an heresy... but something say me that this way could be the fertile path for an honourable return of an old fine trio that broke the 80's rock scene!

No doubt that, like Stewart allways says, "All is possible with THE POLICE"

Regards from Peru,

JOSE ;)

I'm with ya man. I agree. I think there is more to this than meets the eye.

I just really want something soon. I'd love to start planning stuff. If they're playing 80 or so dates... I want to see them as much as I can.

If they are indeed returning, well, I'm sure there will be naysayers, but I don't care and I'll readily accept the band.

Ola José !
Qué tal? :D

Frankly, I do hope they'll do at least this tour, if it's not just rumours.

At the same time, I'm quite astonished Sting just wants to tour again with The Police to celebrate this anniversary, without adding something 'new'. If I'm right, he played just one or two years ago a lot of Police songs during a special tour ('Broken Music' ?).
I'm very surprised he just wants to perform again these same old songs, after just 2 years. Sure, playing again with Andy & Stewart is probably not the same than playing with his 'actual' band and I'm pretty sure the energy will be back. But is it enough for Sting to tour again? Unless there's something new! But it doesn't mean necessarly a new album. It can be a different set list of what we're used to (after all, there are many songs we didn't hear a lot in concert), or 'modernized' versions of their greatest hits... Unless all of this is just rumours and there won't be any reunion. Who knows by now?

Amitiés,
Philippe C.

Ça va Phillipe!

Bien sûr, I agree with you in the fact the set list could be a different one that we used to heard in the past... perhaps including "Sting" songs but why not "new" songs? What will be different if they produced new songs? As Andy told some months ago Sting and him knew what should be a POLICE reunion... Don't forget that some old bands approach a reunion to edited new album (The Who - Daltrey & Townshend) in that way perhaps THE POLICE ventured to edit new material I don't expected with the same style of their eighties era, but why not in a mature style....something that reflex their maturity in age and musical background.

Avec amities et Saludos desde el Peru,

Jose ;)

In fact, I prefer to stay cautious until the thing is out. I mean, even if they announce today they're back in the studio to record a new album, I won't celebrate it until I can have the CD in my hands!

If you were already a fan during these Police years, I'm sure you can't forget the joy we all had when we heard they were back in the studio, in 1986. Finally, we only had this re-recorded version of 'Don't stand so close to me'. Personnaly, I was quite deceived! First because there was only one 'new' song, and of course because there were drumming machines. I deeply believe it wouldn't have been the same if Stewart had 'really' played on that song. But anyway, it was only one track. Quite deceiving.

So you can understand now why I prefer to stay calm. ;) Of course, we can still dream a little bit and make many projects. I only hope we won't be too much deceived. Fingers crossed!

Hasta la proxima!

'De do do do...' wasn't originally released in 1986 but 14 years later. And frankly, I hate this version. But Jose, I know you're the biggest Police fan of all time! ;)
