A really moment! Ha!

Guess I can come out of the closet, so to speak...met Stipe myself as part of the 'Vote for Change' tour in '04. He was so humble and sincere when thanking the staff and volunteers working for the campaign, it was awesome.

Glad to hear T got a little taste! And that you all had a blast! I can't believe how good those guys still are, after all these years.
That must've been a great experience, Dive. It doesn't surprise me that he would come across that way...I'd actually be surprised if you said he was other than that. He has just always struck me as a very real guy.

Nancy, thanks for the details about the REM show! I got soaked in the rain yesterday too, coming home from Home fucking Depot. I had totally forgotten about the Jones Beach show! That kind of rain makes you forget about anything. I am glad no one was hurt, that was some serious lightning we had!

Anywayyyyy...I am going to see REM on Thursday for the first time since 1983 when they opened for the Police!!!!!!!!!! LOL

If you get a ticket for Thursday's show you're welcome to join us for dinner before hand. I'm meeting up with Phyllis and Karen from sting.com.

Well, PapaCat will be taking his first Greyhound adventure with the SuperCat tomorrow...We're heading up to Brooklyn to visit his brother and go see Devo and the Tom Tom Club on Thursday and the heading back on an overnight bus home Friday night...

Arriving back on Saturday, then we're gonna turn around and go to Knoxville, TN to see Tom Waits...home for a day before heading up to the Triangle in NC to visit a friend for his birthday then leaving the next morning for Atlanta to see Waits once more...

I suppose this counts as on-the-road training for the SuperCat trip in July <grin>

Hiya, spuds...just got back from our 48 hr. trip to Brooklyn, had a blast...we managed to do a crapload in such a short time!

DEVO was totally kick ass--they are still just inhumanly tight and put on one hell of a show and basically blazed through a a total-crowd pleasing set of their greats...I was left with a nagging feeling that they really were something else in the music world and a bit of regret they didn't continue. They absolutely rocked like it was 1980, praise be to Bob...<grin>

Kick ass opening video, (no particular order) Secret Agent Man, Satisfaction, Whip It, Mongoloid, Devo Corporate Anthem, Gut Feeling, Uncontrollable Urge, Jocko Homo, Blockhead, Gates of Steel, Freedom of Choice, Girl U Want, and two or so I didn't place...

Tom Tom Club was pretty good as well (only know a few of their songs, really and recognized Words, Suboceana, 4 Way Hips) but hearing Genius of Love live was *great*...respect to Tima Weymouth, she is still bad-ass...She gave a shout to Hilly Krystal & CBGBs. Couldn't believe my ears when they ended with Take Me to the River: I didn't expect they'd any TH, at all...

PCat survived the bus trip but was a little tripped out at the whole scene, especially when everyone is pure primal 'id' at 3:30 in the am...but we're back, a-ok...

And ready to head out to Knoxville TN in the am to go see Dive & Tom Waits <grin>

Devo, yeah, but what about TOM TOM CLUB?! I didn't even know they were touring! Very, very cool that they did a 'Heads song, too!

Super Cats, you two are my concert-going heroes! Love to hear about your escapades. 8)

Ya, we definitely went to see them both--the Tom Tom Club isn't touring they only did like 2 dates in the US with Devo--and we wanted to visit PapaCat's brother in Brooklyn so we just made a trip of it...

The Tom Tom Club was good but I definitely would have wished their show was in a club--CBGB's woulda been perfect <mourn>--it was in an outdoor venue that used to be a huge-ass pool but now you kinda stand on what used to be the floor of the pool, haha...

Oh, and we walked up 8th Ave. from like 8th St. to 41st and saw a few soon-to-be and already landmarks on the way: including MSG and the Tick Tock Diner <grin>

OK. I never thought I'd be posting in this thread. However, it appears that I'll be taking in a show on Aug. 2 in between Police gigs. I'm seeing Avril Lavigne and get this, The Jonas Brothers (shoot me now), thanks to my indomitable daughters. They are playing in Saratoga the night after The Police (Avril and the Bro's, not my daughters.) I had booked our hotel in a small town near Saratoga for two nights since it was the least expensive accomodations on our whole crazy road trip. Then my daughter finds out about Avril's show. She was already ticked off because she'd be missing AL's Toronto appearance on Aug. 6th. She already saw her show in April. I ask you, who in their right mind wants to go to more than one concert by the same performer in the same tour???? So, this is how Mama makes up for it. All four of us are going and my cheap Saratoga stay has just got very expensive. Worse still I had to deal with the evil TB and Vile Nation again.

But hey, I actually kind of like Avril Lavigne's music. I don't follow the whole personality stuff, so I can't comment on that. As for The Jonas Brothers, I think my son and I will have a tailgate party (rootbeers only) while my daughters take in the openning act.

Have fun, Rosemary... you couldn't drag me (kicking and screaming) to those shows, but you are a very cool mom! :D

If only my single mother had time or money to take me to see a certain favorite band of mine in the early 80's....

Gots me a ticket for the VH1 Rock Honors. The Who. Foo Fighters. Tenacious D. Pearl Jam. Flaming Lips. Proceeds go to charity. Only about a week until the show and I was still able to get pretty good tickets.

Look for me on the VH1 broadcast on July 17. I think I'll be wearing a Krypton Green Cameroon Football Jersey for easy spotting.
