Ice that hamstring, EQ! Here is the fine print:

1. We are supporting ourselves, so I expect biking substantially less because I will have to take my turns at, for example, drive the car to our stopping point for the day, ride back until I meet the others, and then turn around.

My target is to ride 75 miles/day for the 11 days of riding (at the speed I ride that means 5.5 hours of riding per day).

2. If we meet inclement weather that'll reduce our riding.

3. I am taking some work, my knitting, my practice pad and metronome, and a bunch of Lewis & Clark reading. So I'll be happy to spend time off of the bike too!

Hi everyone!

Greetings from Vermillion, South Dakota, where we are taking refuge in a cute coffeeshop from some pretty nasty thunderstorms. So far the trip is great, and I've clocked some good miles -- 42 on Monday, 30 on Tuesday, and 75 (!!) yesterday. Tuesday I jack-rabbited in the morning and rode at a fast pace into a persistent headwind, so after 30 miles I was DONE. One of the lessons I've learned on this ride is that I need to leave the triathlete at home ... But yesterday was great.

The scenery and terrain are breathtakingly beautiful; lots of rolling grass-covered hills, some great bluffs along the Missouri River, and great country roads.

Today we were awakened from our campgrounds at the Lewis & Clark Lake on the Missouri River by heat lightning and an impending thunderstorm at 4:40 AM. We poked our heads out of our tents, and saw a line of *very* high-end fiberglass fishing boats attached to trailers, waiting to put in for what looks like a seriously big-money bass fishing tournament. But there were 50 mile/hour winds and nickel-sized hail headed our way, so no boats going in, and we packed up and headed east.

Hi all! Greetings from Atchison, Kansas, home of the Atchison & Topeka Railroad (an important part of U.S. economic history!). It's situated right on the Missouri River and it's a nice town. The river is FAST moving, and it's amazing to imagine how Lewis & Clark and their crew paddled heavily-laden boats upstream to look for the headwaters of the river.

The riding's been good, except for today, when I had a massive wipeout in some large gravel. I'm torn up and sore, but OK to ride tomorrow.

Thanks for the update, Lynne. Too bad about the wipe out, hope you heal up and feel better soon. Brings back memories of a spill I took as a kid...I still have gravel buried in my knee from it...
