Band for support THE POLICE LIVE

Band for support THE POLICE LIVE

Postby giovanni on 06 Jan 2007 11:59

Well, if they would end up planning some concerts, I would do (but it would be almost impossible) an incredible line-up to make it an event bigger than ever...well, let's bring back all those bands that used to support The Police at that time....you know what I mean?

U2
REM
XTC
THE ALARM
GO-GO'S
BANGLES

and I would add some band from today such as...let me see...

RADIOHEAD (I sincerely don't like them but I would say they would perfectly fit the line-up)
EVANESCENCE (they remind me some of those darker bands of that time, I would add them)
FOO FIGHTERS
PEARL JAM (as well as Foo Fighters, they love The Police...I'm sure they would pay $$$ to be part of this line-up).

It could be a two-days Festival with The Police headlining both night! Sold out of course...something like San Bernarndino US Festival.

I would name a lot more bands...what would you add?

Ciao ciao
Giovanni

Ps.: it would be even better that LIVE AID 2... the first LIVE AID was unique

Not so sure who would support the Police nowadays... I think it depends which market they are after.. AOR / rock or pop ? Surely they have the classic rock crowd tied up just playing by themselves!

So maybe bands like Black Eyed Peas or Talib Kweli etc would bring some new faces to the crowd ?

(Both have used Sting / Police samples in the past...)

Taking Back Sunday

Uh, I worked for them....they got no good response in Italy comparing to what they do in US, but they're good; I keep on distributing their previous releases, not the latest one that's on Warner.
(I run Victory Records in Italy, among many other indipendent labels from all over the world).

What about police as opening ? for Genesis ? They will reunite too? hahaha

I am still convinced, they shouldn't reunite. as "The" police. If they get clever, wise and generous (for us) with the years, they will start to work again together. Not to do some easy anniversary show or promotion.

Do you know if Phil Collins gives the reasons why he decided to return to Genesis. Will there be Peter Gabriel ? Do they do it for money? Do they need as much?

regards

Yeah Genesis is reuniting.... but no Peter, just the three man era (last I heard).

Phil was saying no to a reunion for years, until his marriage ended, then I think he said yes so he'd have something to do.... not so much the money, although since she probably got allot of it, it wouldn't have hurt.

But The Police as an opening? No, maybe the other way around.

I'm still not that interested in them actually doing anything together, besides a tour. Not that I wouldn't gladly buy it, lol. Sting would ruin it, and I would just end up disapointed.

SOME OPENING ACTS:

- The English Beat
- XTC
- Joe Jackson
- Elvis Costello and the Attractions
- The Go Go's
- UB40
- Squeeze
- The Specials

That would be a nice flashback kinda vibe.
Cheers.
The Smiths (if they can reunite, too).
... yeah AND Cat Stevens (or Yusuf)!

If you had asked somebody in 2006 for the least probable lineup in 2007, that could have been the answer.

But I'd suggest U2 as support act:
If the Police-Reunion really happens, it would be great to have the second biggest band in the world as support act. ....and before the shows Adam, Larry and the other ones could take lessons from Stew, Andy and Sting, so it would be for the benefit of all participants...

...only kiddin'. in fact, I think U2 are OK. :P
