Several unofficial "Around The World" DVD's are circulating. My copy has a different cover, and is taken from the official japanese video CD, with a great picture quality but... with japanese subtitles.
Just hope that there will be an official release this year with "The Police In The East" as bonus material, as we all expect this for a long time now !!!

That would be awesome - I've never seen Police In The East and I'd love to have a 'proper' official copy of Around The World.

Police in the East is a great complement of "Around The World". The fiming crew is the same and some of the footages are used in ATW (ATW is posterior to ITE).
But there are extra footages in this BBC documentary like separate interviews of Stewart, Andy and Sting, live material in Hong Kong (Bring On The Night, Visions Of The Night, So Lonely and Born In The 50's) and a great early version of "Driven To Tears" in Athena !
Where ATW shows more of The Police world tour, "In The East" is concentrated on the first leg of the tour, from Japan to Greece (february/april 1980). It lasts about 50 minutes, but you can see extra footages never shown on Andy's website, video section !

In my personal opinion, I think that no one should line the pockets of someone selling counterfeit DVDs on E-Bay.

If you don't have a copy of Around the World and need one, ASK someone who has it to make you a copy. Still probably not "legal" but at least you're not paying someone else for it.

Best Regards,

Stephen

P.S. I have a DVD copy of Around the World that I dubbed from my original VHS tape. A couple of years ago, I sent a copy to Ian, maybe it's still floating around the Backstage Cafe somewhere?

Another Police in the East

Postby giovanni on 09 Jan 2007 23:37

There is another Police in the East floating around as well; is the tv version for the Japan TV....more or less the same stuff, but again, some other footage included (don't remember what anwyay...I got to see that again).
So now we can consider THREE different versions of the 'more or less' same productions.

I have seen Police Around the World, a nice person from here sent it to me, and someone else sent me The Rhythmatist. So if anyone feels like sending me (online) The Police in the East, go right ahead. 8)

Hey Brandnew, how's everything at Stingus? I keep meaning to poke in over there, but never do. -Stingirl
