Saw X at the Orange Peel in Asheville. I figured it would be my chance to see them so buy the ticket take the ride and all that. Exene and John have been working on new songs and have talked about going back into the studio, however...
The footage from SXSW was not good, and so I figured be what it may, I'm here to see X live...And I've always been a big fan...I wanted to catch this show so bad that we went to Asheville directly after landing on a red-eye flight from Seattle...a shower, a bite to eat at an amazing vegetaria restaurant, and then we were ready to rock some more <grin>
Let me tell you, they blew the f*in roof off the place. We got there before the opening band, the Detroit Cobras (LOVE the bass player and rheythm guitar player...go go rawk chix, but uneven sound make lots of it hard to hear) and so we were up front, leaning against the stage.
When they were setting up for X, we were slightly left, and they rolled out Billy Zoom's gear right in front of us. Good spot <grin> When they took the stage, the place blew up--opened with Your Phone's off the Hook...Billy was playing up at the very edge of the stage and he does this splits thing so basically I had his crotch in my face the whole show, LOL...He was massively flirting with a few of us gals in the front, haha...
Exene's still got it and we all know John F*in Doe rocks hard, they still have that reparte and sounded killer. I was having a bit of a hard time hearing all parts because we were in Zoomland, freaking gorgeous guitar blaring rockabilly rhythms up our asses...good stuff.
Here's what I remember: Phone's off the Hook, Beyond and Back, Los Angeles, Adult Books, White Girl, Johnny Hit and Run Paulene, Nausea, World's a Mess, Soul Kitchen, Sugarlight and many others, but I have to get on out the door so that'll have to do for now!
They rock as hard as they ever did--totally worth it if you get the chance (there may be more dates TBA)...
MMMMEEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!
