If it doesn't happen in the next 5 years.....

Just an aside: Andy rules. Wish he'd do a fan forum too, but I guess he does check in at AUI every now and then (and it wouldn't surprise me if he surfed by here every once in a while as well).

I loved One Train Later SO MUCH. I literally could not put it down. The really compelling part for me was the beginning, where he was talking about learning to play and feeling so inspired by the guy at the jazz record shop, etc.

It's definitely the best rock memoir I've ever read, and likely the best I'll ever read. I'm going to order a couple of his photo books, too.

Otherwise, what Bella said:

"I really don't think Sting would have made it on his own with those very same songs without the valuable input of Andy and Stewart. Okay, well, maybe he would have, but let's face it, he never would have rocked."

I think it is almost like a "power" thing with Gordon. He is not a stupid man, quite the opposite. He KNOWS that there thousands of Police fans that would love to see them together for one last farewell tour.

He doesn't need Stewart or Andy to even push the idea to him. He knows that if they announced a reunion tour, it would sell out immediately!

They would sell out arenas and stadiums all over North American and the World for that matter.

I think the biggest thing for me and most fans is that The Police were still on their way up when they called it quits. Each albulm did better than the last and Synchcronicity was the biggest commerical success. Most fans thought that there would be more to come and more opportunities to see them live!

When we found out after the tour in 1983/84 that was it and there would be no more.... that they disbanded while still on the rise left us all wanting more. Yes, we still had Sting concerts to go to, but it was NOT The Police.

It like watching your favorite sports figure and following his career and then finding out in the off season that he retired while he was still on the rise and you would never get to see him again. It just leaves you wanting more.

I think one last Tour would be a nice way to say Thank You to all of the fans that supported them. I think Andy and Stewart share this same thought.

I was fortunate to see them live in November 1983 at Reunion Arena in Dallas. I was like 14 years old and it was my first rock concert. I will never forget that show and look forward to seeing them Live one last time!

And BTW... I do think Andy is pretty spry for a guy that is 65.....but at 70 years old... I just don't know if he would have much interest in playing 3 or 4 shows a week and being on the road for 6 months. I could be wrong...but at some point... they need to either do it.... or Gordon needs to man up and tell his fans why he won't do it. Then they can decide if they want to support his solo career any longer.

I didn't mean any disrespect, Ska Man. Maybe I was just irked that you were defending Sting's reasoning. I don't know! Sorry, man!

I feel it is a little more in the way of what Dallas said. It's like a "power" thing with Sting. I feel like he wants to totally disassociate himself with The Police because he doesn't want anyone else taking credit for getting him where he is today. He wants people to think it was all to do with him, him, him. And therefore, he wants nothing to do with a reunion tour. But can't you just let bygones be bygones and just have some fun, Sting? I mean really.

You know what it reminds me of??? A family member that spends their entire life avoiding the rest of the family because of some past hurt....but, then on their deathbed, they want to make amends. Or, a family member dies and they regret never reaching out to them when they were alive. Well, it's gonna be too freakin' late by then, isn't it? I'm tellin' ya Sting, you will regret it one day. Regret is an ugly word.

if the Police where truly like siblings then any bad or old feelings should be left right where they belong "in the past"

MAXIMUM LOVE AND RESPECT BELLA no disrespect taken here my friend  this forum would not be productive if we did not have different opinions and views. As you can see from my quote I believe we are all on the same page. my thing is to try to see it from all three of there perspective Sting is a highly intelligent man i dont know him but from his lyrics and openess to different cultures I believe this is something much deeper than we may or may not understand I'm trying to figure out what
 makes Sting so uncomfortable about The Police as Stewart has mentioned hmmmm I wonder

YES Ska man. We are good. I think you and I are on the same page here about Sting. I think I'm so confused about his issues that I am analyzing it to death! Another thing you made me think from your last post about Sting's "intellect" is that maybe he just takes himself too seriously?

Maybe he needs an intervention. FROM US! HA!

I agree with that.
But if you think, Sting wouldn't have done it without Stewart and Andy, ok probably not as good, he would have managed it anyway. I am convinced.
For me all his so called ‘solo’ material, with in did isn’t more or less solo than during the police (the only difference in the working process of making music, is that the musicians working for him are paid for sessions, like employees). Of course Dominic Miller, Manu Katché, Cheb Mami, K Kirkland and lot of others had a major influence on how the songs finally became.

From the time on, at age 25 or something, he left home with wife and baby to start a new career, putting all they possessed into a car, wanting to be a musician in London, he was starting to build up. Today, everybody laughs about Henry Padovani, but, it seems that at that time, this man coming from the fare Corsican Island had more connections than the provincial looking and probably speaking with a northern accent Sting.
From the beginning, it was exactly like you say. It’s “him, him, him” who did the whole thing. There is continuity in all he did. There is not ‘last exit’ then ‘police’ then ‘sting ex-police’ then ‘sting (no need to precise ex-police)’ and finally ‘major pop star, multi-billionaire Mr Sting plays lute’. There is no difference, all through. Sting is a musician who composes songs and music, who evolved in professionalism, talent and technique, during a carer all dedicated to music. It has always been him in the middle point. He has a big ego, and is very straight, hard working. Very hard working. So he is absolutely right to face the things like they are. He can decide on life or death of the police. In a way he still is the police. In a way, it was him.

The big reproach I make to Sting, is not to consider at it’s right measure what Mr Andy Summers, an incredible player and Mr Stewart Copeland, one of the best drummers of all time, with an extraordinary capacity of sounds and an incredible imaginative sense of the beat, brought to the music Sting did during the police.

Artistically, there are always 2 parts in something you create:
1) it is an idea of song, something abstract you put down on paper, you arrange, you change, you create… to the point you say : ok this is my piece of art. It has sens.
2) Bud at the same time, it is something you have to give form to. It can’t be just an idea. You have to bring it to others, to interpret it. You have to play the sound you imagine.
The problem is that Andy and Stew brought a huge lot to the music of Sting. For me all the songs on Dream Of Blue Turtle, Nothing Like The Sun, etc… to the last album (forgot the name) and Brocken Music tour could comfortably have had Stewart and Andy on it. They would have made the songs better, if proposed to do so. I’m sure.

All things are going forward. For me, the reason why Sting will never accept a reunion of “The” Police is because it would be retrograde, it would be looking backward. He is not nostalgic of the past. He is looking to the future. He explores new horizons, new things, new sounds… and always will.

So, the point is that his music is better when Andy and Stewart bring something to it. Even if the police was a kind of opportunistic deal between them to handle with the hard reality of the music system… every one knows (Ska man: “everyone” includes Sting himself), there is something between the 3 of them ! there is “chemistry”. They have found each other, and even if Sting is a richer and more talented, intelligent and what ever… than Stewart and Andy… He must face that evidence: there is something between the 3 of them.
Each of them is very straight, has developed his own universe, his own world. If Sting is pretty (Ska man: for your posters), and an incredible author/composer, Andy is no less than 1 of the best accomplished Guitar player ever ! and Stewart one of the biggest drummer of all time !

Sting, you must play with Andy and Stewart because:

1) If the chance wasn’t given to you to play with this guys in the late 70’s, now, as each evolves in another universe, you would never meet. You have the chance to be 3 friends and that for, you are able to build anything together. Use the chance of having the privilege of being the friend of the incredible Andy Summers and the talented Stewart Copeland.
2) Newer forget at the beginning, Andy had the most experience… even through he accepted to contain his facilities. To contain his important knowledge of music. To let 2 younger musicians tell him what to do, as he brought some comfort to the possibilities and high capacities of playing you used at that period. It has been frustrating to have to contain his solos in only a few bares. To work, very hard, to your satisfaction, to get the minimum sounds, but perfect.
Every Breath you take would have been a nice track any way. But that guitar of Andy, if just a piece of music history for all time !

3) Never forget it was Stewart, helped from his brothers, who created the police. It was Stewart, and Stewart’s songs who gave you the possibility to start. Stewart gave you the will, energy and strategy to go to success. But, that incredible drummer accepted to let you get the leadership of the band. Even if it was insouciant, if he wouldn’t have face it at that time, but it’s clear, he stayed back, he offered all his creativity to bring to your songs something you would never have been able to bring yourself.

4) Regarding to points 1), 2) and 3, you must do it for music, because if you don’t do it, it will be lost for ever ! You must do it for Andy ! You must do it for Stewart !

bella, if you are with me, do you think it would be mist to organize a last police tour to say goodby ? I'm really glad if you think like me they can reunite but as a different project, and then continue to offer music that sounds... for many and many years.

Now, I really don't see them reuniting for a different project at all. Do you mean, to pick up where they left off with the Police? Never thought of that. But if I had to chose between a reunion of The Police with all their songs, or a whole new sound? Definitely would have to chose The Police. Sorry, Philip. I have to go with my heart! Hope you understand.

I think the perfect time for a reunion would have been 5 years ago. Since then too many things have happened where a reunion just wouldn't be the same.. In particular two people, Kim Turner and Stewart's brother Ian who both played vital roles in the success of the Police and in Sting's early solo career, have since passed away. I'm sure both Kim and Ian would want it to happen in spite of their not being around to witness it. And I would be the first in line to buy a ticket if it were to happen. I do hope Andy and Stewart do get together for future collaborations and I'm sure they'll be fine and dandy without Gordon's involvement. In fact, I kind of cringe everytime people mention a possible reunion, because I fear it'll be another Don't Stand '86.

He said he hopes Stewart and Andy work together in the future and he is quite sure that they will do just fine without Sting. And when he thinks of a possible reunion with the three of them it makes him uncomfortable because he's afraid it will be like the 'Don't Stand So Close to Me' version from 1986. Bad.

Did I do good conroy?
