Le Drapeau vert: the story and NOW the board game!

Hi guys. If you want concert reviews, bootleg downloads, ticket buying advice, random conversation or knitting patterns, sc.net is the place to be. But what if you have a hankering for some elementary school French? Well, relax because you've still come to the right place! Here's Chapter One, the French version. Once I've posted it, I'll start posting the English version that I'll be translating on the fly. So, give me a minute, okay? I've had to take some artisitc liberties (i.e. make up stuff) to keep the story short. So don't go tellin' me that it wasn't exactly like that. I know. Amusez-vous.

Le Drapeau vert: Partie I

Madame B. a toujours aimé le groupe de rock The Police. Il était très célèbre pendant les années 80. Mais, il y a longtemps, les membres du groupe ont arrêté de jouer ensemble. Madame était triste.

Un jour en 2007 les membres du groupe, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland et Sting, ont décidé de reformer et de faire une tournée autour du monde pour donner des concerts. Ils ont dit, <<Nous sommes vieux maintenant mais nous pouvons jouer exactement comme quand nous étions jeunes.>>

On a annoncé un grand concert à Toronto et Madame était très heureuse. Elle a pensé, <<Je vais acheter un billet! Je dois assister à ce concert et regarder mon groupe préféré.>>

Madame est allée au concert au Centre Air Canada. Quand elle y est entrée, elle a vu un groupe de fans. Ils sont entrés dans le Centre et ils ont eu un drapeau vert.
<<Qu’est-ce que c’est?>> elle a demandé à un des fans.

Il a répondu, <<C’est le drapeau de Stewart Copeland, le batteur de Police. Une grande fan a créé ce drapeau et il voyage aux concerts avec d’autres fans. Le drapeau est déjà allé à beaucoup de villes canadiennes, américaines et européennes. Un spectateur montre le drapeau pendant le concert et Stewart le cherche. Quand il voit son drapeau, il sourit et il pointe son doigt ou sa baguette vers le drapeau. Et tous ses fans ont signé le dos du drapeau.>>

Madame a réfléchi, <<Est-ce que cette histoire est vraie ou est-ce que le fan a menti? Je dois regarder attentivement le batteur pendant le concert et verifier l’histoire.>>

The Green Flag: Part I

Madame B. always loved the rock band The Police. They were very famous in the 80's. But, a long time ago, the members of the group stopped playing together. Madame was sad.

One day in 2007, the members of the band, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland and Sting decided to reunite and do a tour around the world to give concerts. They said, "We are old now but we can play exactly like when we were young."

They announced a big concert in Toronto and Madame was happy. She thought, "I'm going to buy a ticket! I must attend this concert and watch my favourite group."

Madame went to the concert at the Air Canada Centre. When she went in there she saw a group of fans. They went in the Centre and they had a green flag.

"What is that?" she asked one of the fans.

He replied, "It's Stewart Copeland's flag, the drummer for the Police. A big fan made this flag and it travels to the concerts with other fans. The flag has already gone to many Canadian, American and European cities. A spectator shows the flag during the concert and Stewart looks for it. When he sees his flag, he smiles and points his finger or stick at the flag. And all his fans have signed the back of the flag.

Madame thought deeply, "Is this story true or did the fan lie? I must watch the drummer attentively during the concert and verify the story.

Oooh la la, je suis une charactère dans un leçon francais Canadien. C'est très cool!

HaHa! Thanks guys. I printed up some pictures from the smugmug flag gallery and made flash cards with them to show the class as we read the story. Yeah, you people have me making freakin' flash cards. So, it kinda was illustrated. I'd perfer something in primary colours done with crayon for the English version, but oh well. And Lynne you are indeed a character. To represent the group of fans, I made a flash card with the picture of the pre-gig meetup from that night and passed it around the class. You were in that shot. The kids studied it pretty carefully.

c'est magnifique, mais une correction en votre texte... Le drapeau est déjà allé a beaucoup de villes cannadiennes, americaines, européennes, australiennes, nouveaux zelandesses, japoneisses, chinois, et de l'amerique latine!!!

In Chapter two, I talk about how the flag goes to all those other wonderful places before it ends up with me in Buffalo in May 2008. I'll have the next chapter ready in a day or two. G'morning all, especially my lovely Brits. I'm glad you're enjoying this. Kimmy, I'm turning your avi pic into a flash card to help illustrate chapter two. It's a classic and is what ultimately drew me to this place. When I saw Stewart do that at the end of the Toronto show, I totally cracked up, even though I didn't know what was going on. I thought this Copeland guy, aside from still being an amazing drummer, is as funny as shit. What the hell is the deal with him, anyway? I googled Stewart (Don't we all!) and the very first thing to come up was his disaster gig post, even after all those month! That led me directly here. I just have to include that photo. My worry is that I'll be giving point envy to a bunch of 13 year olds with that shot.
