it seems there'll be an official DVD of The Police's Don Kirshner TV appearance

http://www.donkirshner.com/the-police-o ... k-concert/

I contacted the website people about the recording date and received an e-mail confirming that there's a DVD "currently in development" instead.

so has the member of the group and his manager who usually block any old releases said 'yes' to this? and the 'devloping' part is just covers and barcodes and stuff?
or is the 'currently in development' bit the permission gathering?

They talk about a DVD boxset. There will be probably several artists.
Let's bet on a "The Police special" DVD with the february '80 show and with “Spirits In The Material World” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” from '81 show as bonus material.

I bet into a POLICE DVD similar than AC/DC "Family Jewels" I mean clips of POLICE Promo songs broadcasted around the world plus interviews and other reports... a 4 DVD Box Set with old video jewels.. I know is hard to find all the rights of those, but It will be amazing 8)

I remember trying to stay up late to watch this show, and not often succeeding, but it was very cool. I almost felt like I wasn't "old enough" to watch it, it was cool beyond my years, which probably makes sense given I was 10 when The Police appeared, according to the link Dietmar posted. would love to see this!

Great discover Dietmar.
For what I know, usually these kind of releases, considering it could be a box set with various artists, have a different kind of procedures and approvement instead of a single release of The Police; the rights are probably on the hands of the Don Kirshner production. Hopefully it may really see the light, that would be amazing.

I can't even be sure if I have actual vague memories of watching it on Channel 7 as a kid or if I'm recreating them based on Mo's memories of it.

Thanks for the news, D.

The bootleg copy that's doing the rounds is already very good quality, I can't see it getting much better. It's a slightly sluggish, laid-back performance, which gives it a unique vibe (check out how slow Roxanne is here!).

I also have a vague memory from old SNL reruns, although this bit appears to be from a separate broadcast. And, RIP Gilda.

My memory of the Don Kirshner show has meshed over time with the SCTV parody version from back in the day. When I hear the name Don Kirshner, I can only think of Eugene Levy dancing awkardly.
