Hey, octagongs. (If I haven't already said this elsewhere -- welcome!)
To answer some of your questions:
This section is made up of a few stories written by Stewart detailing various adventures throughout his ife. As he says at the end of the OP, "Here follows a collection of strange tales about the things that can happen as I walk in the constant company of a distantly remembered mythical being." You are right that there really isn't any introductory material on the main page that a new person can point to, so I can see where it might be a bit confusing.
The Stewart in question is indeed The Genuine Stewart Copeland. He really and truly reads and posts on the forum. That can take a while for new folks to get used to, so don't worry -- you're not alone in your incredulity.
In his profile, you can see some of the posts that Stewart has made:
http://www.stewartcopeland.net/forum/se ... or=STEWART That Disaster Gig post has been referenced ad infinitum all around the world as having been penned by the genuine article, so that wouldn't take you much effort to do a google search on if you wanted.
And of course, you can always email Giovanni, the lovely man in charge of this site, for confirmation. This is Giovanni:

I hope this helps.
