OT: Natasha Richardson's accident...

Has anyone else been following this?

http://community.livejournal.com/ohnoth ... 74022.html

I'm just really heartbroken for their entire family...what a terribly random and tragic accident and for it to (likely, though the news is still conflicting) end so badly.

Please always be safe in your hobbies, people. Wear a freakin' helmet when you go skiing, boarding, biking, whatever...looking like a "dork" is far better than ending up brain-dead from a seemingly innocent bump to the head...

Feel so bad for the family.

The conflicting reports just make matters worse.

I've been watching this since yesterday. The whole thing hits really close to home for me, from the brain injury and bleeding to the two kids and a husband getting on planes to rush to say goodbye to an empty shell. No warning, no previous health issues, no real goodbye. Just an ugly, unfair, abrupt end for someone who probably deserved better. I was one of those kids.

But god, at least I was older than her kids are. I don't know much about Richardson, but I am really feeling for her family right now.

How shocking to find out about what really happened, she was taking a ski lesson on a beginner slope with a certified instructor, so terribly sad...how elegant and talented she was :(

One of the free evening newspapers in London this evening was touting itself with a picture of Vanessa Redgrave arriving at the hospital. Hey Mr Editor, are you still comfortable with that? I hope not.

RIP
I feel so bad for her kids, they are like my age.

This is so close to home for me, as one of my best friends has just had a terrible snowmobile accident, which is going to have her bed ridden for at least a month

on monday i was walking around the skating ring with some 6 year old hockey players...a bunch of figure skaters were on the ice...the kids coudn't figure out why those crazy people jumping around and falling weren't wearing helmets...i thought that was pretty interesting...kids now are used to wearing helmets....i grew up never wearing them...i'm still trying to get used to them...i should know better..you cant mess with a brain.

Yikes. Having just last month taken a beginning-ski class, I gotta wonder what on earth could have caused this - but it doesn't really matter. Was just reading that people who have severe head injuries often initially think they're OK, and refuse medical care.

(Makes mental note never, ever to refuse medical care...on that note, think I'm gonna call the doc about the food poisoning thing...)

((more hugs to all))
