Stewart's known current projects

Stewart's known current projects

Postby njperry on 16 Mar 2009 01:01

I thought it might be good to put on a single thread what we know (in mid-March 2009) that Stewart is working on now.

I know of 4 things:

1. His autobiogrpahy "Strange Things Happen: Life with The Police, Polo, and Pygmies."
Based on part of his dinner tales here at sc.net. It is to be published on October 6, 2009 by HarperStudio.

2. Ben Hur Live.
Stewart is composing the soundtrack for a stadium performance of Ben Hur to be performed in Europe this summer.

3. Music for red fish blue fish.
Stewart is composing a new piece of music to be performed with red fish blue fish, a University of California, San Diego resident percussionist ensemble. The piece has been specially commissioned for La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest, which will take place on Aug. 21, 2009. (La Jolla is lovely beach community a little north of San Diego.)

Info from http://artists4film.com/index.cfm?JID=F ... StoryID=30

4. Percussive concerto for D'Drum and Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Stewart is composing a percussion concerto for the world music percussion group, D'Drum, to be performed in Dallas with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra sometime in 2010.

Am I missing something?

All very exciting, but I woudl hope he tours in some way himself muscially or as an author.

#4 is what I hinted at in a previous post. Glad it's finally made news w/details. A drummer I know is in D'Drum and has already met Stewart at his house in L.A. (to discuss the project). This guy also played for Ray Charles at one point.
I missed that post with the hint. What thread was that in?

I'm looking. It was a while ago, and I've noticed the server has been a bit wonky.

Thanks for the info! That's just what I was stopping by to catch up on. I'm kinda shut out of posting to the board at home for some reason... whenever I click reply or even quote I get sent back to the forum index. Happens on Firefox and IE. A real head-scratcher....

Anyhoo, while the list above is encouraging, it still carries the most dreadful earmark of the pre-reunion days, namely no new recorded work on the horizon. Here's hoping Stew at least deigns to put out another anthology disc and eke out a few new tunes that way. Or maybe he could slip a few out via the Vault. Here's hoping!

Stew should convince El Gordo to release stuff in the archives on DVD.

BTW--try Safari if the other browsers aren't working. Or Opera.

Nice to see that all put together in one place. Thanks, nj.

Although sometimes Stewart's over-achievement gives me hives.

Jed, the Ben Hur soundtrack is supposed to be available for purchase, so that's at least one piece of recorded work to look forward to.

Thanks for the info, daner. Very cool.

I had missed that it would be available for sale. That is great news.

Daner, thanks for the D'Drum info.

The info is minimal, NJ, but Gina saw it noted in the FAQ:
Is the soundtrack available on CD?
Yes, the original soundtrack will be available at showday.
I do hope they'll open that up to selling online as well, rather than just directly at the shows. (It's a bit late in the decade to be selling at such limited capacity.) But SC.net is certainly resourceful.
