One of the finest Stewart recording

One of the finest Stewart recording

The first Animal Logic album!
I was listening to it again in my car today and it sounds great; when it came out, it didn't impress me that much, but year by year I discovered so many 'gems' on each track.
Stewart drumming is definitely superb; I love the way the drums sounds in this recording, and the highlight for me is 'Someone to come home to' (listen to the snare, please...isn't it loud and perfect???); this track shows the quintessential Stewart drumming, with the typical frenetic rhythmic pattern and great fills (very close to some Police tracks such as 'Rehumanize Yourself).
Not to mention the way the whole project starts, with that amazing beat of 'There's A Spy In The House Of Love' (where I guess most of the drummers remains shocked listening to it the first time).
I have to listen to Animal Logic II again, I guess it's about a couple of years that I don't listen to it...shame on me!
And I haven't mentioned Stanley Clarke yet...!
Give it a listen if you haven't until now! You won't be disappointed at all.

Nothing wrong with the album. I had it for ages and it's a fine work.

The trouble are the videos... :x :x :x

I've always liked that record a lot. Lyrically weak at times, but hey, Stewart didn't write the lyrics! ;)

Funny. I hadn't listened to this CD in YEARS but then I pulled it out again about a month ago, and I've been hooked. Like Gio, I was underwhelmed when the CD originally came out, probably because I expected more from Stewart playing with Stanley. And then when I heard them live, I realized how great they can really be. Too bad they could not bring that live energy over into their 2nd CD. The 2nd CD is better than the first, but still paled markedly to their live shows.
There is no bigger gong.

I think the 2nd album is ok, but the first is outstanding! I happen to like Debbie's songs. Yeah, they're mushy-gushy relationship songs, but that's the whole point of most pop tunes. I'll never forget the opening of "Spy" - BA-BA-BOP!!! Shankar on violin, Hubbard on flugelhorn - can't go wrong.
And yes, the tour was pretty incredible.

I thought the drums sounded too thin on the 2nd album - I still do.

I agree with Zil and disagree with EQ that Animal Logic I was the better of the two. Something just doesn't work on the second for me.

But the first is an enjoyable pop CD. Still, I feel that it could have been better had Stewart and Stanely written more of the songs.

I missed the tour. I almost went to a show at a bar with a friend and his sister but the sister was underage and we couldn't get in.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music
