OT: Gabriel pulls out of Oscar Performance

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Peter Gabriel's minute in the Oscars spotlight will lack one important element: Peter Gabriel.
The Academy Award-nominated singer won't perform at the Feb. 22 ceremony to protest an apparently revamped presentation of best original song contenders. Gabriel says in a video on his Web site that he objects to the songs being shortened to 65 seconds apiece and made part of a medley.
Gabriel is nominated alongside Thomas Newman for "Down To Earth" from "WALL-E."
The British musician says he'll still attend the Oscars, but is hoping a gospel choir will stand in for him onstage.
Organizers have warned that this year's ceremony will be full of new twists, including the way categories are presented.

Two thumbs up for Peter
:D

Because the show is usually long and boring not because of the lame writing, intros, and skits but because of the 5 whole songs that are performed?

Power to the Peter.

ETA: Power to the animal as well.

I'm not proud-- I'll admit that's why I'm going to watch.

You gotta love a toothsome Aussie. Plus, he's a lot more talented than that dick Russell Crowe...;)

Me 2. But I draw the line to Brad Pitt winning the Oscar as Best Actor. That I would NOT like to see.

And Fuck Peter Gabriel's ego trip. Who cares!

While I appreciate someone's tenacity, the fact that he's still attending the ceremony but not performing says "baby" to me. Suck it up, Peter and sing the shortened version. The last tour I saw you on blew so many chunks I almost stopped being a fan (Smirnoff Music Center--Dallas, 2003 or 4--tons of false starts, his daughter SUCKING as a vocalist and it being new leg of the tour with new songs that weren't solid at ALL).
