OT - “The Musical Brain” with Sting on CTV

The documentary will air on Saturday, January 31 at 7 PM on CTV.

You can find out how music affects Sting on a physical and emotional level – this could actually be quite interesting!

As this show will only air on Canadian TV, I’ll record it, but I’m not quite sure how to get it if off my digital box. Any advice?

Pf - get a Tivo! :)

Actually, I'm kinda serious. you can buy a $70 piece of software that will allow you to download stuff from it to your computer if you have a wireless network.

Also - there are options to be able to connect a TV receiver to your computer, if it comes right down to it. I have one for the Mac called Pinnacle, but I haven't actually taken it out of the box yet (got it at the CompUSA bankruptcy sale for pennies on the dollar.)

I'm reading Daniel Levitin's book that this is based on. It is, well, interesting, but really odd too. When I finish it, I'm willing to share more. I started it and got through 2/3 of it on vacation in October, haven't touched it since, and now FEAR that I'll have to wade through it from the start again to have it make sense the rest of the way through.

He made some interesting observations, such as musicians were more likely to get laid and procreate because people were biologically attracted to people with musical brains -- for all of time, not just recently. (that is beer paraphrasing -- beeraphrasing, maybe? Schmaffy?)

Here is the link to the book anyway...

Sorry policefan, my VCR is still flashing "12:00 AM"
I'm still going to check it out so long as it doesn't conflict with Hockey Night in Canada! 8)

Looks like often after they air these documentaries they let you watch online at:

I wouldn't be too surprised to find the content can only be viewed by Canadians.

We'll find out next week I guess!

Chatchka - thanks for the link! I'd read an article about this months back and could not remember the title, the 'who', yadda yadda. Shit - wouldn't it be great if we still had 15 year old brains, never mind musical ones? ;-)

Question. (Hypothesis?). Maybe nothing to do with the 'musical brain', whatever the gong that is, and all to do with the loud rhythmic display? Casual observation suggests that works for many species.....

Don't get him going........

However might I add that in the hockey world, the only thing that matters is Lord Stanley's Mug. That means that 29 other teams also won't do well this year.

Cup or nothing!
