*sigh*

No Pants Day 2K9
On Saturday, January 10, between 1,200 and 1,500 New Yorkers dropped their drawers for the 8th Annual No Pants! Subway Ride, from Foley Square to Union Square.

When spectators would ask why there were so many people without pants, the response was usually, "It's hot" or "I forgot."

What a great idea.

Mad as cheese the lot of them!

It must have been freezing. Is this something people do to raise money for a charity like the English thing of going swimming in the sea on Christmas day?

Dropping your drawers in England means something different and would more than likely get you arrested if you did it on the underground.

How come nobody celebrated No Pants day here with 70 degrees?

Bizarre life!

This has become an annual event. The group that "arranges" it is called Improv Everywhere. They're hilarious. they've also staged events at a Best Buy store--I forget what they did but I think they got a bunch of people to go in a store and stand still.

They also staged a re-creation of U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" video on a Manhattan rooftop--on an afternoon when U2 was playing at MSG nearby! People actually thought it was the real band and eventually the police were called (no pun intended) and broke it up.

Actually, they did! Well, in LA: http://tr.im/7bc5 (second photo down).

Improv Everywhere does some great stuff: http://improveverywhere.com/ I've never had a chance to participate or witness, but their Moebius project was really smart; I remember loving seeing video on the news of the Grand Central freeze. I love the spontaneous Food Court musical, and Look Up More is just gorgeous.

Why do you need a specially designated day, Pluto? You are bold and a natural leader. Why don't you just tell the rest of the world when it is No Pants Day? Start a revolution, dude!

Towos, it was quite warm here too. I think no one celebrated No Pants Day in Florida for two reasons. We don't have a subway and there are so many that wear so little, it would be hard to really draw a distinction. That also seemed to be the case in the LA photo posted. I immediately thought, "It looks so much like those ridiculous shortie shorts that the chickies wear, how can one tell?" (Not that I have anything against shortie shorts on tall, handsome men -- that is a cool look.)

(Very Surprised they didn't seize the chance in SanFran)
It really doesn't look any different than normal down in Hell-Ay!
