How I got here

How I got here

Postby themudderqueen on 24 Dec 2008 04:13

I am one of the "old time" fans; Police, Animal Logic. A while back I caught something on TV - a little embarassing to be watching I might add - where the drummer from the Aquabats was demonstrating "how to drum". It reminded me of how much I loved Stewart in the Police and looked for some videos of him playing. Came across this site, started reading other info, found another site - already forgot the name (that's where the blonde meets the grey) that includes a list of all SC's accomplishments. I am flabbergasted. No wonder there are so many Kryptonoids. I started out as an admirer, but now - I AM NOT WORTHY!, lol. I imagine many of the members here are musicians - I can only envy you (sigh). Think I'll go back to spending my time on neurology websites - kidding.

Welcome aboard! What's the story on the username?

Oh, and there are a bunch of threads on how to get your avatar to work. I'll run see if I can dig one up.

There's also one that gives the background of most folks here...will try to remember to find that one as well...

ETA: here's an avatar thread:

Welcome (I think again?), mudderqueen!
I imagine many of the members here are musicians - I can only envy you (sigh)./quote]

I'd say it's pretty equal opportunity: plenty of musicians, as well as poseur musicians, wanna-be musicians, musician fetishists, and -- when all else fails -- folks who will mack on just about anything that can string two beats/notes/words together.

(I think I probably qualify for 3 out of 5 of those.)
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Seriously, maybe we ought to start a thread for stuff folks need to know when they join (where to get bootlegs, what Stewart's been doing, etc...) Or am I just an idiot and all that's in the Kopelandic glossary these days...?

Hi all! I got my username from my daughter. She is severely "differently abled"; 19 years old and so beautiful! Looks like Angelina, thinks like Shiloh, lol (the first thing you learn as the parent of a special needs child is to develop a wicked gallows sense of humor). She's a Disneyaholic - when watching Snow White, she would always scream with feigned horror, "Loooook! It's da mudder queen!!!" So my 3 other kids gave me the nickname. Well, that also explains my interest in neurology.

My son is an emerging and gifted musician - I envy him, too. My attitude is that he is a goumet and I am a gourmand. I would love to look into the Avatars and all that - a little technologically inept here.

Hi there my friend; everytime I read of someone 'captured' by this place, it almost drives me to tears, I'm not joking.
When I built it, my aim was to gather people with a deep interest in what Stewart does, but thanks to all of the fans writing and spending some of their time here, we've built a great place to have fun, to support each other, to help in many ways.
I met great and special people here, and reading your message drove me to think you have something special to be really one of us!
Enjoy!

Awwww...thank you so much! In case all you Stewart fans are also REM fans, have to tell you this: Among my daughter's first words were some of the lyrics to Losing My Religion - she calls it "Oh Life" and is still obssessive about it. When Michael did a book signing 13 years ago in Irvine, he had her come up to the table; flash bulbs went off, she crawled under his chair and had a seizure. He told me to wait until he was through with all interviews and he would spend time with her when she recovered. THIS IS THE BEST PART, THOUGH - while all these photogs were setting up to take the cute picture of Michael and Carrie, he focused on my son Kiernan (the emerging musician), then 6 yrs old, asked him what kind of books he liked, took him over and picked out a dinosaur book and read it to him - then insisted he be in the pictures. How unbelievably compassionate and insightful! She got to see him again this last May - waited for us to arrive, brought us in the back way, then asked for more stickers as plastered them all over him. What a gentleman! Just had to throw that story in because it makes me so happy. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas season.

Hi mudderqueen. Welcome! I think you'll fit in fine. What a great story. I think there probably *are* a fair number of REM fans here. They were one of Leroy's (Ian's) bands.

It's great to have another Stewart fan on board. And your arrival is, as an IRS CD is appropriately titled, "Just in Time For Christmas."
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

Yeah, I kinda thought there would be REM fans here, because I knew they were originally on IRS records. Leroy? Was that Ian's real name?! I downloaded some of Orchestralli on Songza last night; as I said, I had no idea there was so much more to the Stewart story, other than Rumble Fish (love Stan Ridgway, too). I'm not a TV person, so I didn't even know what the Equalizer was - but MAN - that music is KILLER!

Are you trying to make me cry on Christmas Eve? I'm so glad to have you here. The REM story was great. I hope you and your family have the best Christmas ever. Looking forward to more posts.

Glad you found your way here, mudderqueen! It's a special place, and it seems you fit right in.

Love your REM story. It further confirms my impression that Michael Stipe is a helluva guy.

To answer your question, Leroy Coolbreeze is the nickname given to Ian when he served in Vietnam. He writes about it in his memoir, "Wild Thing." I've got a spare copy I'd be happy to send you if you're interested...just email me with your address if you like.

I would LOVE to read it - had no idea Ian even served in Viet Nam; was so sad to hear of his demise. Great book title. Yes, Michael is an INCREDIBLE guy - true Southern Gentleman; as he says, "I thank, therefore, I am.", lol. If you ever have the chance, listen to "The Wrong Child" on the Green CD. Very poignant lyrics - and speaking of lyrics, my favorite of all the Police lyrics were always Stewart's - what a killer sense of humor he has...although "Does Everyone Stare?" is actually very touching. And any man who names his music after his daughters is a SAINT.

I am still clueless about how to get an avatar - went to that link, but...Oh well; guess I'll have to wait 'til one of my kids gets home, lol.
