OT - Working this Christmas

OT - Working this Christmas

Postby moonstone on 21 Dec 2008 12:42

I'm working for part of each day this Christmas because I'm a self- employed animal carer.

I don't mind too much as the roads are always quiet and my customers are pleased to see me. It helps that the tips and pressies are pretty good too.

Anyone else working?

I don't have to work on Christmas day but I work the day after. Which is fine. Almost everyone is in a good mood the day after Christmas so it's usually a fun day.

I could have had the day off at the 9-1-1 center, but one of my employees has a ten-year-old son who is still very excited about Christmas. I volunteered to work for her. I don't have children, so the day itself doesn't mean that much to me. Over the years, I have learned to celebrate the Holidays on the days when I can be with my family. Bry has been very cool about this. 8) Luckily, Christmas is very slow at the police department, and the residents bring in lots of cookies and goodies to show their appreciation for the dispatchers and police officers. :D

well for those of you working, have a wonderful day. Most likely you are providing your community and serving those who need your assistance. My sisters are all working cuz they work in Nursing home facilities.

@Rancid...yep, that is good that people do show you appreciation for your hard work. Awesome of those folks. Glad you were able to give your time so someone else could spend Christmas with their family. You are so sweet and kind. Thank You. :)

Even though I get lots of holiday time at my paid employment, I usually work my hardest at this time of year in my other job as fulltime Mom. However, this year I will NOT be working on Christmas. My kids are off to Florida tomorrow to spend the week with their dad. It's the first time they've flown anywhere without me. Of course, I'll be worried half sick about them and be on the phone daily. Still, it's nice to be officially off duty for the first time in about three years.

This is such a lovely thing to do Rancid and your employee will be really grateful, I know I was if anyone offered to swap shifts with me so that I could have Christmas day with my daughter when she was young.

And LL I hope you get the chance to have a decent rest and a lot of partying! Your babies will be back with you soon.

Happy Christmas to everyone whether you are working or not, and a fab 2009 though obviously that'll be harder now that the tour is over.

Safe travels to sportarella, dancerina, and the boy. And I'm sure you'll be frazzled half to death by their absence, but hope you manage some irresponsible R&R for yourself, LL.

Good wishes to all good folks working over the holiday. You rock.

Well, here I am at work! I am up to my armpits in candy, cake, cookies, and other assorted goodies. A resident just walked in and thanked me for being here to answer 9-1-1 on Christmas Day and handed me a box of premium chocolates. The local church is bringing us Christmas dinner with all the trimmings at noon. I have my TBS 24-hours of "A Christmas Story" on in the background. My employee thinks I am the best boss ever, and I am getting paid double-time-and-a-half for sitting here. I will be home by 5pm for Christmas dinner and presents with the hubster. Yes, this was a lovely thing to do, but I think that I am reaping all of the benefits.

Merry Christmas to all of the Nutters!

And you deserve all the benefits for being a cool boss. Have a lovely evening.

Luddite Lady I hope you've got your feet up and a big fat drink of something lovely in your hand. :)

Hey Rosemary!

I figure it's about 50-50 that you're either dancing through the house naked or sitting teary-eyed by the phone waiting to hear from your babies on Christmas Day! I sure hope it's the former! Throw another log on the fire, crank up the volume and Go! Mama! Go!!

Hello all!
Thanks for being a fill in family for me today, at least until I show up at my brother's place for dinner. (Just four adults and some damn good food)
Yes, Nancy it's more like the former. I called the darlin's myself this morning just to get them off my mind. Now I'm clad in a bathrobe listening to some Handell's Messiah and about to throw a log on the fire. Ooops, I don't have a fire place. Rancid Date, God bless you for working today, and the Toronto 9-1-1 dispatcher that I'm about to call. Hic!
