OT - What Are You Favorite Holiday Treats?

Postby shyvixen on 21 Dec 2008 00:24

Me, I can't get through Christmas without peppermint bark. I just love it so!

I've never been a big fan of egg nog but I think my brother-in-law drinks several gallons before New Year's.

So what holiday treats do you love? They don't have to be sweets.

Yummy, tasty bark...

Apple pie, with no back crust (I hate that).

My Grammy used to make killer fudge and peanut butter brittle and divinity candy when I was a kid. I miss that. We could never get her recipe the way she did it.

We had 2 seasonal treats in my family.

From my German heritage was stollen, a traditional Christmas bread.
My mother would make it every year. It's a yeast bread with lots of steps and lots of ingredients. We'd eat it Christmas morning while we opened our presents. Well, actually in the afterglow. That was a true labor of love.

My Greek grandmother would send us homemade baklava every year. She'd hide a lucky dime in it.

Om nom nom nom....

OHMYGONG Amy....Bakliva...oh yum. That is sooooo gooood and tasty. I have not had decent Bakliva since childhood. My uncles friends were Greek and would always make it for us.

Hot choclate and Baileys with marshmallows on top. Yummy - so sweet you can almost hear your teeth protesting! :)

Mine's a bit odd I'm afraid. My dad's homemade prawn pathia. Curry heaven.

Christmas / Plum pudding,

My Great Grandmother used to make these every year, even into her eighties and then it would be flamed before eating. Om Nom Nom :D
