Brimstone & Treacle - Brief News Clip

Brimstone & Treacle - Brief News Clip

Postby Krokodyle on 16 Dec 2008 23:13

Hey there...it's been a while, but I recently managed to up some old news clips from a "certain music channel", one of which includes a very brief mention of "Brimstone & Treacle" winning Grand Prize at the World Film Festival that year (1982).

There's also a bunch of other news clips (non-police), if you've got a free moment or two...

Enjoy!

I always liked that movie. They should've gone "darker/weirder" with it though... :wink:

excellent stuff, krok, thanx muchly......

dennis potter (author of brimst n treac) was a bit of a hero of mine.. he was dying slowly and did a heavy weight arts show interview which he had to keep stopping through to swig from his bottle of morphine: it ranks as one of the most breath-taking things i have ever seen on telly....... to steal from a reviewer on yootube;

"I remember watching this interview when it was first broadcast. Dennis Potter was a genius, a fascinating, inspiring, wise man. A rare irreplacable talent. This is a very moving interview and the first time I have seen it since the first time, and I remember most of it (had a lot of impact then, and now..) his words are poetry in this interview, 'the nowness of everything is absolutley wonderous....if you see the present tense, boy can you see it and boy you can celebrate it"

It is worth a watch, Denholm Elliott and Joan Plowright are always a treat to watch. Together, along with Potter & Loncraine, they paint a very interesting household in the movie.

Although I like B&T a lot, I'm not really sure it deserved "Grand Prize", and I wonder if Sting wasn't in it if it would have received any attention at all.

I would be surprised if this movie wasn't released on a Japanese laserdisc, but a casual search didn't turn up anything...
