OT-- New Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band

Postby Madgrad on 28 Nov 2008 21:30

Okay, gamers. We're getting a Wii (that's not gonna change, so no need to try to convince me that another gaming system is better  ). All I need to know is, do we want the new Guitar Hero with all the gear, or do we want Rockband? Any and all opinions much appreciated. 8) 8) 8)

That's where we're leaning-- the reviews we've read on Guitar Hero World Tour have been quite good. Now to actually lay hands on one. . .

I keep intending on writing a detailed response to this post, but I keep getting interrupted and am just swamped.

But short answer, after playing Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 extensively, I would purchase Rock Band 2. However, instead of buying the Rock Band 2 bundle that includes all the instruments, I would buy the instruments a la carte (if that's possible) and buy the Guitar Hero drums rather than Rock Band 2 drums. The Rock Band 2 drums have a better foot pedal, but otherwise the Guitar Hero World Tour drums offer superior play. Some of the early drum sets that shipped out to people who bought GHWT immediately, like me, are indeed kind of defective, but I think the word is that drum sets bought now should be ok.

I will try to find time to elaborate later. However, it is kind of a close call as both games have their pluses and their minuses. But what it comes down to is, after having both of them for the past month or so, which one do I play more often? Hands down, its Rock Band 2. The main reason I play GHWT is when I want to play Hendrix. I should also note that I think GHWT is more geared to Europeans as there are more European songs on it than Rock Band 2.

PS Carrie, feel free to email me directly if you have any specific questions.

And for those last minute procrastinating shoppers like myself, some additional info re: the games: A beatles Game is coming out next year for RB2.

Anybody know how interchangeable the use of the actual instruments is from RB2 to GHWT?

They were supposed to be interchangeable with xbox, but I would make sure with PS3 or Wii.

My sympathies on not purchasing a PS3 or Xbox 360....

I have heard that Guitar Hero 2 is the one to get. It's wireless !!!

(personally I hate those type of music games, but that's just me,heh, heh)

Good Luck !

Now I'm going back to playing Fallout 3, The Godfather Dons Edition, GTA4, Saints Row 2, Fable 2, Soldier of Fortune Payback, Gears of War 2, GRID, F1 Championship, NBA 2K9 and NHL 2009.

Cheers YO !

Just another reason that it's better to get the xbox than the other platforms.

Thanks for finding that Pluto

I tried the Premium drum set for Rock Band 2. I would recommend this if you can afford it - $299 for the drums alone.

I would play a lot more if I had the entire setup with the Ion kit. Sigh.

Dear Santa,

1.) 52" LCD
2.) xbox
3.) RB2 & GH4
4.) Ion kit
5.) Vaters

Thank You
