This has been bugging me for some time now. I am sure there are several reasons (Sting mostly), but I have never heard the following great tunes done live by The Police. I have quite a few live bootlegs and these have not surfaced.
Are they out there somewhere?
1. Secret Journey
2. Omegaman
3. Darkness
4. Rehumanize Yourself
5. Bombs Away
6. It's Alright For You (only lip synched on video?)
7. Does Everyone Stare
8. Contact
9. On Any Other Day
10. Voices Inside My Head (only used as an intro??)
These too, but they are more Jam oriented with little or no lyrics..
Too Much Information
Behind My Camel
The Other Way of Stopping
Masoko Tanga
They may all have been barred from the setlist with a big veto by Sting or the band as a whole, but If you have heard these live...hook me up with details PLEASE!

"Secret Journey" has been played live in april 1982. I only know 3 shows with this song featuring:
- Pittsburgh, Civic Arena - april 9
- Hartford, Civic Center - april 10
- Providence, Civic Center - april 13
They probably played it in Boston on april 12. I have this show but not listened yet. I have to check !
Maybe that it coincided with the US release of "Secret Journey".
"Too Much Information" was played in introduction to "When The World Is Running Down" in october 1981 in Germany (Böblingen and Essen).
Dietmar, more infos ?

nothing much to add here...
they promoted the US single SECRET JOURNEY by playing the song during their concerts in April 1982
I've got 7 different concerts with this song
TOO MUCH INFORMATION was played at the earliest concerts in October 1981 only.
I can't rule out that other songs were played once, but for now there's no recording of these...

There's only ONE live recording of "Too Much Information"?? (faints)
Seriously. That's such a good song. I'd've figured they'd play hell out of it. It's another one with great drumming, for my money.
No Masaka, hardly at all? (faints, down for the count)

"Too Much Information" sounded incredible with The Chops as brass section !
God knows why they decided to remove the song from the set list after only two or three shows...

Thanks to an un-named person for the awesome Mp3 of Secert Journey live at Hartford! It sounds really empty without the awesome vocal harmonies that were laid down in the studio. I guess it's just one of those they couldn't really reproduce well live. They could have pulled it off with the backup singers on the Synch tour perhaps. Oh well..Very cool to finally hear though!

that's one of the great things about ghost: it's basically a horns album! they came and went quickly tho, and i always wondered if they added a horns section to that tour.. guess not. or did they olivier? could dietmar bless us with more of his keen wisdom?

Jedsoon..you really need to get the Gateshead dvd. It's an awesome outdoor concert in England on the Ghost tour. The horn section plays on a few of the ghost tunes and doesn't do that bad of a job for live rock and roll anyway. Lots of material on there.. no pun intended! heh-heh.

I also have the tour program from "Ghost." It is a nice piece of memorabilia. You can find it at record conventions and ebay from time to time. It lists every single piece of equipment they took on tour. It also has the horn section pictured there with their names.
There's a good question. Where did these horn guys come from? Did Sting pick them up at some jazz bar?

done! thanks for the heads up on this, i've always been curious about the presentation of the music for that tour and wondered what a live horns section would sound like in a police show. the reiews were mixed, as not all fans were enthusiastic about the addition of a horn section. plus it seems the camera's focus is on sting, which is also my criticism of police coverage/footage in general. but i'm mainly getting it for the music anyway. it will be a different type of experience for sure!

The horn section works very well in the songs of the Ghost album, not really with the others... I'm not very fond of. But sometimes it's terrific !
I only know that The Chops were from New Jersey, but I don't know the story of the meeting with The Police.
Maybe Dietmar would give us more infos !

Hey Saga55...welcome.
Where would we neophytes get hold of this Gateshead of which you speak?
I have a slew of Guided by Voices recordings to trade. Hint, hint
