that's strange. didn't stewart say that this film was like the final chapter in the police book, that this is closure for him? in the TV guide article he says he'd do a reunion in a minute.

i dont think it will ever happen, seems pretty obvious that sting has absolutely no interest except as a one-off maybe for some charity.

he'd do

In fact .... he'd do....we know he would start working as Police in a minute but that sounds impossible

Either way, I'm just really impressed and inspired by his many talents.
I mean, not many rockdrummers are as creative as Stew.
He does it all it seems; Filmcomposing, drumming, moviemaking, etc.

You know what? Maybe I shouldn't post this out here just like this for the world to read, but that band would not have been one tenth as successful without Andy and Stewart.

I mean...come on. We all know Sting got credits for many of the songs and truly, they kick ass...but one thing I noticed from Stewart's derangements and whatnot on ES:TPS was how cool the new arrangements were. Since every single Police album is only credited to the guys + Nigel Gray, I have to figure there's plenty of communal influence going on.

Probably Sting thinks his vaunted reputation will be sullied somehow by his deigning to perform music with the other guys who put him where he is, which is ridiculous, but there you go. I just looked at his official website, which is nearly laughable in its pretentiousness...it's such a shame he chose to go that route, but he's been a bloviator for so long now it's unlikely he's going to come down off the high horse any time soon.

Only thing is, you gotta figure the guys would make a pile of money if they got together to do a reunion tour...maybe Sting will get desperate enough for the coin to do it someday.

Divemistress I like your analysis, but at the end I think you are very hard with Sting...

I perceived many fears in Sting, many insecurities to play with his expals, and also a fear to compare The Police with great and sucess nowadays bands.

And in the TV guide interview I feel some hide sadness, but anway the information is great. Thank you very much Copelandos_Damour...

I like it, very nice end of the story about Everyone Stares film:

"It's surprising to me, in all that footage that I have,

I don't have anything other than laughing and chuckling" Stewart

Copeland.

Word to what you said, Divemistress. Not much I can add to that.

I dunno, sock - I think georgygirl has a point. Could be just plain fear that's keeping ol' Stingo away from the other guys. Stewart's now won five Grammies - and is playing with the mighty Les Claypool, whose new album is among my favorites this year; and Andy's recording all kinds of cool stuff with various artists, as well as writing books and exhibiting photography, so the pressure would be on for sure.

And it's too bad, really, because you figure somewhere Sting's still got it in him - the talent that resulted in songs like 'Invisible Sun', or 'One World'. It's just that now he's playing lute music, and a lot of his recent product is really overly precious and not in a good way. Although - hey! Waitaminnit - maybe the lute music record is a return to traditional forms like jazz and blues that Andy has been exploring so nicely the last few years. I won't hold my breath, but maybe he is going some direction other than attempts to corner the same market that's providing us with the likes of Clay Aiken and the Backstreet Boyzzz.

I was kind of appalled to note the headline on his official website as of last night was that same tired story about him having sex for 15 hours, and there was a prominent link to some boring article about his wife having introduced Madonna to her husband and going on about their five mansions and general fabulousness...Yeck. You'll notice Stewart and Andy talk about their work, and who they're recording with and their influences, instead of how wonderful they are personally. Sigh. (Although I would like to know a little more about various Police offspring, since there are a baker's dozen of them, and whether any of them plan to rock out any time soon. Stewart did say in an interview a couple of his kids have musical talent...my dream is that one of them will hook up with Sean Lennon...)

Oh well. What are you going to do (besides go see Gizmo and Oysterhead, and buy Andy's book that comes out this fall?) In a way, we're really lucky that all the guys are still so productive and that we're here talking about their recent work, not something they put out twenty years ago.

(In other news, though - got out my old vinyl copy of 'Zenyatta' this morning and was amused to notice Sting wearing a t-shirt from a club near me in Nashville, the Exit-In. Noticed a couple Nashville segments in 'Everyone Stares,' also. Guess I was just remembering how much I used to adore him, and how pissed at him I got when he started putting out songs that rocked about 1/10 as much as anything he did with Andy/Stewart.)

...One more note

(I realize several people reading this format speak languages other than English, and I have some difficult words in my previous posts...let me know if you need me to explain anything I'm saying.

Yo comprendo Espanol well enough if someone's speaking slowly, but every now and then certain words or concepts will confuse me, so I do know how it feels. ;))

For good measure, here's the link to the language translator again:

Last night I watched Everyone Stares (again) with my mom, who is also a long-time Police fan (though where I was always the Stewart fan, she was always more into Sting & later Andy). She really enjoyed it for bringing back the memories of our big Police-fandom days, but also had to comment (without any prompting from me), "What *happened* to Sting? Nothing's he's done since then can compare to this."

And she said that as someone who followed Sting's solo career much longer than I did.

Anyway...I don't want to go off on an anti-Sting rant here...he can go make whatever kind of music makes him happy these days and obviously there are lots of folks who enjoy it, even more so than what he did with the Police...but I personally am not one of them, and something about his attitude these days and some of the things Divemistress mentioned really rub me the wrong way about him anymore.

I know everyone has to move on and can clearly see from ES just how the break-up was inevitable and a necessary move-on for everyone in the band. But it just makes me a little sad Sting seems so determined to steer clear of his past that there seems to be no room or chance in his mind of any kind of reunion or whatever. Shoot, I mean, how cool wouldn't it be if they weren't like Oysterhead--happy to go off and do their own things 99% of the time, but every 5 years or so come "down from the mountain" to just play a gig or something together again?

And even yet still more

You know, it may be lame of me to beat this dead horse to jelly, but I noticed whilst watching ES:TPS how darn cool all the guys used to look back in the old days; fur collars, big ol' boots and stuff - and now Stewart and Andy still look fantastic (the specs are awesome on Stew, I like that soccer shirt he wore to Bonnaroo and on the Gizmo tour, Andy is fabulous as well) and Sting has gone on this foofy rampage where he's running around without his shirt on and still trying to look babe-licious in his mid-50s somehow. I'm sorry, but I just listened to the lute music sample Gio linked in another thread, and it struck me as just unbearably silly, like Sting is trying Way. Too. Hard.

I swear. I'm convinced the 'cool' attitude the Police once had was emanating mainly from Stewart, mostly because he still has it! Sting is just lost without Stewart giving him direction, and it'd be nice if he would just come right out and admit it. We all know that'll never happen, though!

I agree with you. Stewart had/has a damn cool style which Sting never really had/could have. But you know, Sting is Sting. Most people see him as boring. As do I. I'm not a fan of his.
I think that's why I prefer Stewart. He's excentric, funny and stylish.
Although, his clothes back in the day impresses me more than the clothes he wears now. Like the polkadotted shirts, the huge glasses and the shorts. But I think it's good that he's going with the flow now; Wearing whatever he likes and feels comfortable in.
I'm not really sure what we were discussing, actually...
