Who owns the Police name and catalog?

A few general, technical questions:

Stewart has written that he and Andy can not tour under the Police name, and they would need Sting to do that. I figured that since the SC was the founder of the Police, the Police name belonged to him. Is that wrong?

Who owns the Police Catalog?

Did the Police still owe the record label a certain number of albums/CD's at the time of their demise? If so, what happened then? Is that why all we've gotten since then is several compilations of the same greatest hits?

Thanks,

I liked very much the way JL posted the messages.

Good writes, and also how you manage your identity turns into a mistery that attracts.

For me, (sorry for not supporting you Al) keep writing the same way you did it

Ok this is going to sound stupid, but couldn't they tour under the name "Police"....you know leaving out "The"?

That's possible.Look at the "The small faces" who bcamse the "The faces" when Steve Marriot left and Rod Stewart joined. That all depends if their is another band called "Police".

Touring under the name "The Constables" or "The Federalies" wouldn't have the same ring, would it?

Mmmm

For sure The Police label owns to SC, but...

Touring again Andy & SC with the same label and without Sting, is a big risk. Many fans could be deceived, because of this.

I think is better with a new name, maybe a synonymous like The Federalies" or another one.

Is just my point of view.

Take it or leave it. :?

Come on guys.. it's not really the police at all without Sting is it?

I'd pay to see all three of them solo and be happy. That's not to say it wouldn't be good to hear a new Police track - but do you really think it would be the same as when they left off in 1986? All three have grown so much muscially apart it wouldn't it be a step back for all concerned?

Of course if they did reform it would be wonderful. I'd be first in the queue. But Stew and Andy plus A.N. Other touring as the Police would just be naff. GIZMO is a much better idea if you want to hear some old Copeland penned Police tracks, as is the odd guest appearance with the current crop of bands who are influenced by the police.

OK they wouldn't be 100% The Police, but 2/3 ain't bad. I'm satisfied with that number.

Yes true it wouldn't be the same as in the 80's, but I didn't see that....so it dosen't matter. They are getting older so there probably wouldn't be much jumping around.

But true it would piss allot of fans off...so maybe that is better left for Sting to join.

Either way, Stewart do a show in Dallas?

But the Beatles stoped at the top, maybe it should be left? Then again Cream stoped at the top too, and they still did a reunion!

Then again The Beatles had a reason for not doing a reunion, and ...we don't want that.

It'd be wonderful but probably will remain a dream.

IF there is a reunion it has to be the original three.

I can wait as long as it took Cream or Pink Floyed to reform!

My preference

For sure I will like to see Stewart and Andy playing together again with another voice, but not with The Police label.

I remebered three months ago I was seeing a pic from Andy, Stewart and Incubus lead voice, when my little kid, (9 years old) came to see the picture and said:

-Well mom, Andy and Stewart (he is very familiar with The Police pics) looks almost the same, but Sting, mmmmm, he looks really different.
