The Jo Publik Derangements

The Jo Publik Derangements

Postby Kalypso on 20 Aug 2007 17:24

Hey ppl,

I have been in touch with Jo Publik and he wrote me that the Derangements on his MySpace site aren't Stewart's, but his own work.
They are really good, so I suggest you give them a listen.

I think it's perfectly legal to interpret or being inspired by other artist' work, but, just in case...I know the "30 seconds rule" (you have to pay royalties if you play in public music of another artist for over 30 seconds). In this case it does not seem to apply, so no harm to da Plice. If anything, flattered by the homage.

Now I really have to go, I have to be a good girl. As always.

This place has a magnet. :!:

Hope it works, otherwise look for Jo Publik.

BTW, I am a HUGE Jam fan (them, madness and p'lice not in that order, were all I listened in the 1st part of the 80s, then came the Pixies and the Young Marble Giants...)

Love madness but the Jam. I know we've talked about the modfather b4. He was 19 when he wrote classics like In The City, Modern World etc and it just got better and better. Liked the Style Council (was gonna but SC down then!) but not overly keen but those 1st 4 solo albums were another stroke of Weller genius. Great lyrics, great tunes. Did you know on the 1st solo album he played most of the instruments well Bass, Guitar, Piano/Rhodes etc. What a class act.

You've probably already got it but hope you've heard Jam Extras album. That's one of my favs. All b-sides and unreleased stuff. Came out in about 1993/4 I think.

Pixies are good but never checked out Young Marble Giants. Will have to. Just about to try your link. :D :D

Cheers Kalypso.

Link not working?

The person who did those mixes has shared them here before. I enjoyed them, but he in no way had the authorization to create them. It looks like the long arm of the law may have caught up with him...

Just listening to em. Love the Stand By Me one. Harmonically it is the same song as the verse(s) of Every Breath You Take and works brilliantly.

I might have work on some myself. I used to do quite alot of stuff like that but not Police as yet. Used to sample people like Bob James alot and funk artists. Ive only got one left as my old computer died a couple of years ago and the HDs gone.

Cheers mate

Legally, I wouldn't recommend anyone taking Jo Publick's lead. If these derangements are known by the Police powers that be, they are probably just looking the other way cuz he is not making any money off it. But if Stingo wanted to, I'm certain he could, at the very least, so a cease and desist.
Just a word of caution.

By the way, I really like JP's derangements and would recommend all to give them a listen regardless.

He's not making any money out of them. He is being totally ignored by the record company, even after having approached them, they just said they weren't interested....for the moment.
Bu then it's pretty understandable really, these tracks would only interest a few of us...

The Gift is an Absolute Masterpiece. From the first to the last note. In the mid80s, second only to Synch.
Like the Police, The Jam went out on a high note.

Pity for the absolute crap that were Style Council....

Haven't heard Mr.Clean for years. Lyrics are great and it has a chord sequence at the end which is part of the verse chord structure of one of my fav Jam song on the extras album. Can't remember the name of it though. Lyrics start of <Come down, your teas on the table, and nothing seems to matter anymore. And if you're good, we'll go out on a Sunday spend the whole day, thinking of it. take you sailing across the water, to a faraway place>. It's weird how I can remember that verse + whole song and play it as well but can't remember title. Heard Stev Craddick do a version of it at least I think that his name, guitarist Ocean Colour Scene.

Kalypso you must know the name of that one.

Mr.Clean though <Surround yourself in pain, of pretty young girls and anything you want, but least of all but me, while I smash your face in the groin.ground> Never been the best at transcribing lyrics but sort of shows you the range and colour as a very young man, of his personality in 2 songs. What a f@!*ing genius and living legend. You gotta love the PW.

Anyone seen hid new DVD, similar to SC's Everyone stares but about PW throughout his whole career. I think it's a must buy it.

PS. Should be buying my first drum kit tommorow (second hand £120). Cant wait. SC the dreams coming true man.

"Daylight dawns, you wake up and you're Mr.Clean.
A piece of toast from the one you love most and you leave...."
I'm reciting these lyrics from memory...many moons ago listening to The Jam in the halls of high school as an "angry young man".
You said it Franco, PW had some great songs, I'll add English Rose to the list too.
Congrats on your impending drum kit my good man! Post some pictures of it for us when you got it up and drumming :D
