Broken Music vs. One Train Later

Broken Music vs. One Train Later

Postby TheEqualizer on 25 Jul 2007 17:34

Which book do you like better. I'm a One Train Later guy myself. At first, I thought I preferred Andy's book because I think he has a better point of view and more sympathetic story. But I was rereading parts of both books last night and I think that Andy is just flat out a better prose writer than Stingo.

As an aside, Stewart hasn't written a book that somehow has just flown under my radar, has he? You'd think he would provide the most interesting stories given his personality.

Although I really enjoyed OTL, I found BM to be an easier read and more entertaining.

I felt that OTL dragged a bit in the first half of the book and then got better. I would have liked to have read more in each book about post-Police years.

I actually like both books(especially that part when Sting described his first meeting with Stewart) but I think "One train later" was more interesting, plus Andy wrote about his life before Police which I liked very much.

No.Fucking.Comparison.

Broken Music is well-written and nostalgic, but Andy's book is funny, witty, spiritual, sentimental, one of the best rock bios I ever read!

P.S. I don't Stew can stay still enough for long in order to write a book, but if he dictated it to somebody else, it would probably be the size of a dictionary
(and I would memorize every word!).
He is very articulate, writes very well and I enjoy his views not only on music but on politics and the world in general.

I know he has been prompted several times to write his side of the story, only I see him as too restless to achieve such a task on his own.

I vote for Andy's. I had trouble getting through Sting's, I didn't need every detail of some gig circa 1975. I was very lucky to hear Andy read from his book on stage at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books held at UCLA last April. I met him for a second time after and he was very cool. It's even funnier when you hear him read it. Stewart's book would be the "War and Peace" of rock bios.

Oo-oo-ooo!! A Stewart Copeland bio!!!A dictation from the very Mouth of Himself! The Word, indeed would very much enjoy!
I very much enjoyed OTL-Andy really had quite a life without The Police.
But I especially was, o.k., touched to read in his book hi line about the miracle of being reunited wth his family and then continuing on with them. A man who absolutely deserves this celebration of his music w/ this Tour. And seemed to keep the majority of his writings the focus on music, the folks he encountered & how that all impacted him, and not so much sighting on himself alone.
Stewart is still my favorite Police-man/-musician, just wanted to clarify.....I've gone on a bit....

Thanks Kalypso, gotta show the Andy love, he deserves it! Can we show Sting love here or is that too much? He doesn't have a decent forum either.

Stingo has many fan sites, if they are not decent it is really his fans' problem. I like Stingo as a songwriter, but this is primarily Stewart's forum and place of worship.

I don't know what happens if you go on Stingus and express some Copelove or some Summerslove.... :?: :?:

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the posters on Stingus weren't really sure who Stewart is. Not ALL, most, or even a lot. Just some.

I loved both books, but One Train Later was by far my pick! I actually loved the beginning of the book. It was like the total history of rock! I learned so much about how many genres came to be! Fantastic, and I actually CRIED at the end!! Who cries at the end of a biography? I gave it to my mother to read, I'm gonna have to get it back and read it again. Actually, I'd like to read both of them again, now that they are back together, it might be a whole new experience.

Throb, you lucky bastard!! I would have loved to see Andy read from his book. Bastard!

And yes, I have to agree, that Stew would outright outWRITE both of them!! I mean, just his Dinner Tales are good enough to read over and over again. Yeah, Mrs. Fiona, sit that boy down behind a keyboard and lock him up, will you??

I just picked up 'One Train Later' the other day, and it reads great so far....who knew Andy could write so well?!

As for Stingo's book, I'm not too sure I'll pick it up quite frankly....doesn't it end right when the Police begin?
