I uploaded a commercial for the early 1980s hand-held electronic game, Simon:

Take a listen to the "band"...the music sounds an AWFUL LOT like our boys ;) like the opening guitar chord & riff, and even the "Do da do" part.

Shameless! :D

Holy smokes, that's just weird. The guitar is definitely Andy or at least a good knock-off. The guitar part is almost identical to the De Do Do, the chords sound just like it. I think the Police had something to do with this, if even just to license the use of parts of De Do Do. It would have been better if Sting did the vocals though!

I'm sure it's some studio musicians, instructed to make "something hip that the kids will like", and since this commercial is circa late 1980, "De Do Do Do" was hitting the charts.

It's very unlikely The Police had anything to do with it, unless it was scrutinized as a possible lawsuit ;)

Yeah, that's true. With today's copyright lawsuits I keep forgetting that it was a bit looser back then. I just think that a commercial with a musical sound-alike of that nature wouldn't hit the airwaves without permission today. But who knows?

Um, Krok, slow news day? How did you come upon this??

Luv the avatar. Stewart doesn't have too much to work with these days.

While searching for 1980s commercials a while ago, I found this commercial online, noticed the similarities, and promptly forgot about it. I watched it again the other day and it took me by surprise.
