Unfortunate news for Sting-o

From today's headlines...

===

LONDON - An employment tribunal ordered Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, on Tuesday to pay a former chef $51,000 in compensation after she won a sexual-discrimination claim against them.

Jane Martin, 41, won her claim in May. She said she was fired after she became pregnant.

At a hearing earlier this year, Martin said she had worked for the 55-year-old pop star and his wife for eight years, cooking meals for them and guests including Madonna and Elton John.

She said Styler grew unhappy with her after she became pregnant in 2005, making her work long hours and growing angry when she took time off work because of illness.

Martin, who accused Styler of having a "grandiose ego," left her job under disputed circumstances in April 2006.

The panel at an employment tribunal in Southampton, southern England, said in its May ruling that Martin had been unlawfully dismissed by Lake House Estate, Sting and Styler's management company, and was a victim of sexual discrimination.

Sting and Styler said they had already launched an appeal.

Yikes!

One of my grand crusades ever since having a baby is that women need to rest and should not be treated as if they are not pregnant at work. The costs to society for premature labor (which can be brought on by working too hard during pregnancy) are staggering. We've gone from a culture that demandds women be abolished from public and sit with their feet up for nine months to one that just pretends there's nothing really different about you when you're pregnant which is just as bad.

If this is true, and the law in England seems to think so, she deserves every penny she gets off them.

I'm not making any judgements on the Sting/Trudie case... I only know what the news story said, which isn't much. But in terms of what Jenny just said, I agree: when I worked in the corporate world for 15+ years, it seemed that every preggers gal in my company would try and work all the way through the 9-1/2 month point.

I mean, what's more important than ensuring the health of new people coming into the world?

It seems that society has some expectation for every female to be a superwoman. It's absurd. Not every pregnancy allows for the woman to continue on as if nothing is going on except a larger abdominal area.

Anywhoooooo.... hope it all works out. Remember, $51,000 to you and me seems like a lot of money. Keep in mind that the Police has been averaging $3.4 million gross per show on this tour. Just saying.

Not surprising.
Every celebrity has had to deal with that kind of stuff. But the point is, celebrities get to be so self-centered and conceited that maybe there is some truth in that.

I think you would have to have lived at Sting's house to know all the real facts on this one.

It's too bad, I hope no one was being stupid from either side.

...nothing more important than health.

I can't judge though.( I would hate this stuff in the news if it were me.)

Cheers.

Egg-zactly. Again, I'm not referring to this specific case, just some general thoughts on working throughout a pregnancy. For all we know, the gal spit in Trudie's food and flashed her boobs at Gordie.

Zactly! Thank you weasel. I am having a really hard time not judging. Trudie has had how many babies? She certainly didn't have to worry about paying the bills or being on her feet all day. She should have been more sympathetic. She should have been going out of her way to make things easier for her cook. Maybe she did, but at the end of the day, the law said differently.

Yeah, and I ask myself everyday, why this isn't the case. Why don't I live at Sting's house?!

Possibly not. I'm just admitting that at least 30% of my negative reaction to most everything Trudie Styler does is my complete and total jealousy of her. I admit it.

Oh, and I agree Policerule...should've just settled and been done with it. I don't think it's been worth having it dragged all through the headlines so much...)
