MuteMath anyone??!!

Postby bluescoobyblue on 15 Jul 2007 11:42

Hi to all Police fans!! :D
I'm new on here but have been "lurking" for a while!!
Got my tickets for Twickenham and Millenium stadium and cant wait!!!

What I wanted to ask was , has anyone heard of a fantastic new band called Mutemath??
Well they're new to me!! Stumbled across them on a satellite rock station and have seen them on youtube and they are awesome. Very reminiscent of Police and sting-like vocals.Favourite tracks are Chaos and Typical.

Ps So glad the boys are back together for one last tour as I never actually got to see them first time round!!

Hi blues,

Greetings from a fellow recent delurker! Mute Math has been around in the U.S. for a couple of years, but I think they've only recently been signed to a label. They had been selling CDs out of the back of their truck after gigs, and then I think they started getting more exposure in early 2006. I read about them in Paste magazine and bought their CD from their MySpace page. I was pleasantly surprised to see the other day that you can get them on iTunes now (at least in the U.S., I know iTunes differs regionally).

I second your recommendation, especially "Chaos" and "Typical". Honestly, though, I've found that the rest of the album is good background music for me, and that I don't choose to *listen* to it, as opposed to having it on, as much as I do with, say, Interpol or Editors or Franz Ferdinand or Snow Patrol.

I LOVE the Every Car You Chase mash-up! I'll post the url here in case others haven't seen it, although I still haven't gotten the hang of forum url posting:

I've seen Snow Patrol a couple of times since they first played Chicago three years ago, and I'm glad that they are getting such acclaim and attention, because I really enjoy them.

I went to the Police concert at Wrigley on 5 July (thus my avatar), and am sorely tempted to do another in the fall, given all of the excitement and humor here.

While we're on the subject of other bands we like ... are you familiar with The National? Their new album (it's their 4th one), Boxer, is really good, has some interesting percussion, and I am particularly entranced by the lead singer's voice. I don't know how much exposure they've gotten in the UK, but I believe they are playing tonight at the Latitude Festival, just finishing up a Euro tour.

I missed MuteMath's set at Bonnaroo but everyone I have talked to said they put on a great show. From the videos and music I have heard on Youtube and other sites they look pretty damned good.

I'm hoping to get a chance to see them live in the next year or so (MuteMath, Smashing Pumpkins, and Gogol Bordello are my top 3 picks of stuff to see this Fall, if I can).

If G and I can swing the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans ( Oct 26-28 ) that will give me another shot to see MuteMath and take care of the Smashing Pumps. Now I just need to find a Gogol show near us in the fall!
