...on the cover of Mojo magazine. Still no sign of the Police issue in my poor, distant, neglected country. And I keep checking the music mag shops daily just like I used to as a teenager...

Not related to any of the above, just saw an Oasis clip on TV: would anyone agree that the drummer of Oasis (probably the most overrated act in rock history) just could be the lamest drummer of all time? 'splat........ splat....... splat splatty splat........' is what he sounds like. Horrid.

Are you talking about the current drummer for Oasis or the drummer that was on Wonderwall/Champagne Supernova/Etc? If you are talking about their current drummer, I very stongly disagree. Their drummer is Zak Starkey, son of Ringo, and the current drummer of the Who. He is extremely good. I was especially impressed with his live performances on the Quadrophenia tour in 1996ish. In my mind, on of the up and coming drummers in rock.
As an aside, I think the Wonderwall drummer was Alan White, who is quite well respected in general.

....and there's always the rhythmless Meg White.

But doesn't Jack White want her to be rhythmless?

I'm so sick of Bob Marley

Older stuff for sure, the track that spawned my comment was 'Live Forever'. Whoever that was on drums, it just doesn't work for me... I'd take Meg White instead any day! :)

Rapa, you would be referring to Tony McCarroll then. He was kicked out of the band after just one album because he sucked so bad.

3/4, I gotta assume you've never seen The White Stripes live or listened to their B-side material in any substantive way. I suppose I can "kind of" understand how the casual listener wouldn't like 'em, but I have to try pretty hard to understand. I thought they were nothing but hype myself for the first couple of years, then I got hold of the 4-disc Blackpool set. Great stuff, and very scholarly vis a vis rhythm & blues music.

Jack moved to Nashville a couple years back, and Meg hangs out here, so I hear a lot about 'em. Have seem them live a couple times as well, and would recommend the experience.

(I gotta admit I have a thing for girl drummers in general - Georgia Hubley and Mo Tucker being another two of my favorites, along with our own GinaSuperCat...)

Yo Dive!

Yeah, all I've seen/heard from the WS are their radio material and any live SNL/Late Night appearances which have left me much less than impressed. The recorded material sounds alright, but once I saw her perform live...well, that was the nails in the coffin for them as far as I was concerned.

With the studio equipment and wizardry that exists today, any fool can sound competent on record. It's the live experience that truly sets the talented apart in my book, and from what I've heard of their live material Meg just can't hold a beat together to save her life. Perhaps she's gotten better since I last heard the WS live because for the past couple years I've done my best to avoid them like the plague. Not to be rude, they just haven't done anything for me musically....but I'm the first to admit that I haven't given them a chance in quite a while so...

What bands are you into? We seem to have got on the wrong side of one another the last couple days. No offense taken, or intended, I'm sure...just curious, since I think I have a good sense of what you don't like. ;)

And Van Lear Rose, which was produced by Jack, is one of Loretta Lynn's best albums ever! If that isn't genius, I don't know what is!!!

I can understand why people say they're technically not all that impressive, but on the other hand...neither was Howlin' Wolf. Or John Lee Hooker, or a lot of other people both members of the Stripes list as influences.

I'm just sayin'.
